FOUNDATION NEWS

It’s hard to believe that there are only 2 and a half weeks left of the 2025 school year! What a year it has been, full of so many different opportunities and amazing learning experiences- and this week has been no different in Foundation.

As designers, we began creating mini models of our special places. We had already taken the time to carefully consider and document the features of each place. Then we popped on our thinking caps and thought about what we would need to include when building it. Next, we drew detailed, labelled plans to guide our work. As part of the design process, we constantly revisited our plans and made improvements to our creations. The learning spaces were a colourful jumble of sticky tape, glue, icy pole sticks, paper, cardboard, and craft materials- but the end result was amazing! Now, our special places have come to life, and we can’t wait to show everyone at our Celebration of Learning, thisThursday, 4th December!

Of course it wasn’t a week at St Fidelis without a super fun event! Our week ended on a high, with our Colour Fun Run! We donned our groovy sunnies and ran around the yard. There were smiles and laughs as we were showered with brightly coloured powder and transformed into walking rainbows! So much fun was had, however our favourite part was definitely sliming the teachers!

We also farewelled our wonderful student teacher in Foundation AM- Jesus Solano, aka, Mr J! Mr J has been a wonderful asset to not only FAM, but to all of us in Foundation. His enthusiasm, patience, generosity, dedication and musical talents will be missed. We wish him all the best on his journey to becoming a teacher, and hope to see him back here soon!

YEAR 1/2 NEWS

It has been another busy and exciting week in the Year 1/2 spaces as we move towards the final two weeks of term.

This week, students have been busy designing and constructing their birdhouse prototypes. Working in teams, they followed the success criteria they developed through research, along with the group plans they created earlier in the unit.

As collaborators, students are practising important teamwork skills such as sharing materials, exchanging ideas, and taking turns with different roles. Throughout the process, students have also begun reflecting on their design choices and making improvements to strengthen their prototypes.

We look forward to seeing their creativity continue to shine and sharing their final designs at our upcoming Celebration of Learning!

This week, we celebrated our Colour Fun Run! Students had been eagerly looking forward to this event and had an incredible time running through the colour stations and cheering as their teachers were slimed. It was wonderful to see so many children giving it their best effort, with some bravely stepping outside their comfort zones to join in the fun.

A heartfelt thank you to all the parents and friends who helped make this event possible, as well as those who came along to watch and support on the day. The joy and excitement were felt by everyone, including the teachers!

As faith-filled people, we have been learning about the Creation story in the bible and used this understanding to compare with Indigenous perspectives on Creation. We have reflected on what God made and our role as stewards of the Earth,  referring to Genesis and the 7 days of creation. We have gathered new information on the Indigenous oral stories about creation, how they teach us to be good to one another, to listen to our Elders, and to look after our country.

This week, we will be learning about…

  • Numeracy: Multiplication & Division (Year 3) Mass & Capacity (Year 4)
  • Literacy: Novel Study - The One & Only Ivan
  • Spelling: “s” as in “treasure”
  • Inquiry: Design: How can we make a difference?
  • Religion: Creation Story with an Indigenous perspective and Advent

Upcoming events in Week 9…

  • Thursday 4th December - Celebration of Learning in the SLA (8:30am-9am & 3:30pm-4:45pm)

A reminder about school uniforms:

  • Students are only to wear their sports uniform on Wednesday, when they have PE. Teachers will communicate if it is required on other days.
  • School shoes are to be entirely black.
  • No jewellery, except a cross and small hoops/studs.
  • Hair accessories must be in school colours.
  • No nail polish or false nails

Year 3/4 Teachers,

Belinda Panzarino & Sarah Hogan

YEAR 5/6 NEWS

As part of our end-of-year learning, we had the opportunity this week to engage in a Kids Helpline Zoom Meeting. Our Year 6s had a focus on Transitioning to High School, this was where we explored ways of dealing and transitioning to high school. We developed strategies and help scripts when developing new friendships. We also explored ways to keep ourselves organised and prepared for High School.

Our Year 5s had a focus on looking at Leadership, this is where they explored different strengths as a leader and how they could use these to support themselves in a leadership role next year. They had a great conversation about teamwork and collaboration. We are very grateful to Kids Helpline for offering these valuable learning opportunities for us to engage in.

Literacy

As writers, students have continued publishing their engaging stories. After revising and editing their drafts, they are now moving into the final stages. This includes adding illustrations and putting the finishing touches on their work. Students are thoughtfully considering how their images support and enhance their narratives, creating pieces that are not only well written but visually engaging too. It has been wonderful to see their excitement grow as they prepare to share their completed stories at Thursday’s Celebration of Learning.

Inquiry

As inquirers, students have been busy preparing their Shark Tank-like style pitches for Thursday’s Celebration of Learning. They are finalising their prototypes, evaluating their solutions, and rehearsing persuasive presentations designed to convince you, our wonderful parents, that their product is the best option in a natural disaster. This stage of the inquiry has inspired collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking as students refine their ideas and consider how to clearly communicate the purpose and impact of their designs. We can’t wait for you to see their hard work and cast your votes during our showcase on Thursday.

Home Learning

There will be no further home learning for the remainder of the year; however, students are welcome to continue using Matific or continue reading Nevermoor, or any novel of their choice, at home.

  • Celebration of Learning - Thursday 4th Dec
