Moving to High School

For Year 6 students currently attending a NSW Government School

Moving into Year 7 in a NSW Government school

In NSW Government Schools, applying to move from primary school to high school is a 2-step process:

 

  • Step 1:  The first step is to complete a Moving to high school expression of interest.  When completing this form, you will be able to indicate which school(s) you would like your child to attend in Year 7.
  • Step 2:  The second step is to submit an enrolment application, which will be issued to you by the high school after they have assessed your expression of interest.

Timeline for parent/carer(s)

  1. March 2026

    You complete the expression of interest form

     

  2. April - August 2026

    High school(s) review expressions of interest in order of preference.  All eligible students are entitled to enrol at their local high school.  If a school can accommodate your preference, they will make an offer to enrol your child and provide you with an enrolment application to complete.  

     

  3. May - August 026

    You must submit an enrolment application to the high school that has made hte offer, within the specified time.  During the online application you can upload all documents to support your application.

     

  4. September 2026

    Your child's placement is confirmed.

     

  5. February 2027

    Your child begins their first day of Year 7.
