Auslan

Our Year 5 and 6 students engaged in a deep and insightful perspective focusing on the experience of being a Child of Deaf Adult (CODA) and discussed different family perspectives, fostering empathy and greater understanding of the diversity of the Deaf community.
The Year 3 and 4 students have been busy preparing for the upcoming Christmas Carols. They enthusiastically rehearsed two songs: “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas” and “What a Wonderful World”.
- Our students became incredibly confident in signing both pieces.
- After careful consideration and feedback, particularly from the Year 3 students who expressed a preference for the festive tune, we held a class vote regarding the Christmas Carols performances.
- While there were mixed feelings, the collective decision was to focus solely on signing ‘I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas’ for the event.
Our youngest students, the Prep to Year 2 cohort, have concentrated on mastering foundational Auslan skills. They have dedicated significant time to practicing finger spelling and successfully forming letters into words, which is a crucial step in building their visual language proficiency.
A Special Thank You to Our Auslan Captains
We wish to express our profound gratitude to our Auslan Captains for their outstanding leadership this year. They demonstrated incredible bravery and poise when standing on stage to sign the National Anthem.
Signing a song when the primary language of instruction is spoken English is a significant undertaking. Our Captains have performed their duties beautifully, not only on the stage but also as dedicated role models and helpers in the classroom. They have done a truly wonderful job!
