Teaching and Learning
Mr Baker
Hi Families,
This week I'd like to talk to you about Mathematics. The Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership have designed a resource to share with parents and prompt them to think about the way we talk about mathematics at home. Mathematics anxiety and declining attitudes towards maths negatively impact student learning and limits their potential. At Ballan PS, we aim to create an inclusive and positive mathematics environment in all classrooms, and use resources to support students feeling overwhelmed with mathematics. We value Maths positively, make it enjoyable and create opportunities for students to make their own personal connections with a mathematics topic.
Our Reading progress reports were made available to families to read via XUNO last Thursday afternoon (May 23rd). If you have any questions about the reporting comments, please get in touch with your child's classroom teacher.
The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge (PRC) is now well and truly open and Ballan Primary School is excited to be participating. The purpose of this year's challenge is to explore, learn and enjoy - promoting a love for reading. At Ballan PS, we are ready for the challenge!
Students and teachers have made an excellent start with reading books in class to work towards meeting and exceeding the challenge targets. If you’d like to participate in the challenge at home and log books via the website, please request your child’s login from your classroom teacher.
Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers. Children from Year 3 to Year 10 are challenged to read 15 books.
All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers.
Can you make a word worth a hundred dollars?
Example: TURKEY - $20 + $21 + $18 + $11 + $5 + $25 = $100
What is the value of your name?
What is the value of your favorite animal?
If you can make a word worth a $100, please come and show Mr Baker.
