Student Absences

A reminder that all absences need to be entered on Compass with a reason for the absence (medical, holiday, illness etc).

If your child is sick or absent, you are required to notify the school as soon as possible on the day of absence.

To notify us of student absences, either on the day due to illness or in advance for family holidays, parents/guardians are asked to complete an 'Attendance Note' through Compass or ring the school office prior to 8.30am to report their child being absent from school.

If an absence remains unexplained after 9.45am on the day of absence an SMS will automatically be sent to parents. This ensures families are aware their child has not arrived at school, so their safety can be established.

Notifying the school of your child’s absence either prior to, or on the day that they will be away, helps ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and will fulfil your legal responsibility.

All Victorian government schools are required to contact parents/carers as soon as practicable on the same day of an unexplained student absence. If your child is absent on a particular day and you have not contacted the school to explain why, the absence will be marked as unexplained.

This system also promotes daily school attendance. Going to school every day is the single most important part of your child’s education, they learn new things every day – missing school puts them behind.

If you need help with entering an Attendance Note, please refer to the instructions below:

These instructions can be accessed via our school website from the Compass Guide for Parents and Families: click HERE

Our Attendance Policy which outlines the school’s processes and procedures for monitoring, recording and following-up of student absences is also available HERE from the school website.

Do we have your most up to date contact details?

If not, please contact the school office by email parkdale.ps@education.vic.gov.au or on 9580 1451 so we can update our records. Please include parent/carers’ name, address, phone numbers, email address and emergency contact details. Please remember to contact the school if any of these details, or your circumstances change.
