Level 1 & 2 Wonga Weekly

Week 8, Term 2

šŸ“š LITERACY

In Reading, we Ā will consider extended vocabulary presented in our mentor text, 'The Story of Rosy Dock', written by Jeanie Baker. We will discuss the main idea in the text; what is the impact that introduced species can have on country?

In Writing, we will continue focusing using persuasive language to convince someone to Ā care for country.

In Phonics, we will be focusing on the digraph 'ph'. Ā When these two letters are found together they make the 'f' sound, examples include 'phrase', 'phone' and 'trophy'.

Ā

What you can do at home

Investigate some of the plant or animal species that have been introduced to our country.

Have a discussion with your child about what the impact on our native environment can be when species are introduced.Ā

Ā

šŸŽ² NUMERACY

This week we will continue our focus on how addition and subtraction are connected. Finding the missing number in equations will demonstrate how these operations can help each other out.

We will also explore concepts in shape; classifying, drawing and describing the features of 3D shapes.

Ā

What you can do at home:

Encourage your child to explore Maths Seeds (Gr 1) and Mathletics (Gr2) to help them practice simple mathematical concepts. Opportunities to practice fluency in numeracy will build skills that your child will use in the future.

You can find passwords for the above-mentioned programs inside the front cover Ā of your child's Reading Log.

Ā

šŸŒ„ CBL - Country

This week students will consider the importance of keeping our country healthy. Students will learn about land and water management, the implications of species introduction and the need to consider the impact of our environmental footprint on country.

Ā

ā€œWhen we care for Country, Country is strong and healthy. Then we are strong and healthy too.ā€ Ā Aunty Fay MuirĀ

Ā

PREMIERS' READING CHALLENGE

Your child should have now received an information page and login details which will set them up to participate in the Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge. Ā Every child in the school has been registered but participation is optional. If you would like to participate, follow the steps outlined to enter the books read.Ā

THINGS TO CONSIDER

This week, students will be completing a range of assessments on their iPads. It is vital that students bring a fully charged iPad to school every day, to complete many of the tasks we plan for, including assessments. Please help remind your child to pack their fully charged iPad in their school bag every day. Thank you for your assistance with this.

Ā

Thank you to those parents who have offered to volunteer in our 'Parent Helpers' program. After working through a few logistics, we are now hoping to start the program in Term Three.

For those parents wishing to volunteer, but who have yet to complete their 'Childsafe Volunteer Training Session' an additional session will be held online tomorrow afternoon (Tuesday 4/6) at 5.15pm. The link and meeting number below will get you in to the training session, which will be run by Adele Brice.

It is important to let your childā€™s classroom teacher know of any problems/concerns that your child may share with you about their time at school.Ā Please alert the school (classroom teacher) about the problem as soon as possible, allowing school staff to work through it, rather than trying to solve it yourself or with other parents.
