GAPP Parent Night

by Ms. Bernadette Sheedy, High Ability Learning Specialist

On Thursday 6th June I had the opportunity to deliver a presentation titled ‘Supporting Your Gifted Child’ to parents of our current and future GAPP students.

A range of topics were covered during the session, including understanding common characteristics of gifted children, unique features of the ‘gifted brain’ and challenges faced by high ability students including overexcitabilities, perfectionism, imposter syndrome, asynchronous development, twice exceptionality and social challenges.

We discussed how parents can identify if their children are experiencing these challenges and interventions that can be used to support these social emotional needs of gifted children.

The evening concluded with a question-and-answer session. Thank you to all parents who joined us for this event.
