SRC Update

by members of Student Representative Council

School Values Team

The SRC is closely working with a newly formed School Uniform Committee led by Ms. Bottrell to explore improvements to the current school uniform to ensure the best possible uniform policy for Box Hill High School.

We are currently in the process of collecting student and parent opinions in order to understand what we should keep in mind when considering the interests of both students and parents moving forward.

SRC Garden Team

In Term 2 the Garden Team successfully planted and set up the garden so that the space is nearly complete now! The yarning circle rocks were delivered earlier this term and we would like to say a big “Thank you!” to Mr. Oaten and Mr. Breese who helped us navigate the complicated process of getting the rocks delivered to site safely.

We would also like to recognise the very kind donation of about 80 native plants from Greenlink Nursery. We welcomed some representatives from the nursery, Chris and Robert, who visited the school to see our work in the garden.

Looking ahead to Term 3, we will be planning an official opening ceremony, which we hope will include a traditional smoking ceremony, to formally acknowledge this new social space at the school and the hard work of everyone involved!

SRC Study Rooms Team

In Term 1, the SRC established the student body need for more quiet study spaces in the school during lunch. In this term, we have been busy surveying students and staff to ask questions regarding appropriate days and staff availability. Our team has taken notes about staff and student feedback which we intend to address next term. One of our goals is to determine a clear set of rules for the study rooms to ensure they are used appropriately. We are currently in the process of making a formal proposal to the Principal Team regarding the potential study rooms.

Water Fountain Team

In Term 2, the water fountain team has undertaken data collection around the school to map out the locations of the school's water fountains and has planned  where additional fountains would be most beneficial. In addition, we have been researching different types of water fountains to purchase and have selected a few models that could potentially be appropriate for our school’s needs. Finally, we have recorded in a planning document the requirements that would come with the new water fountains, such as maintenance and refilling needs.

We believe new water fountains would be beneficial to students as we believe there are many 'dry' spots in the school needing an accessible place for students to refill their bottles and drink water.
