Another 2 busy weeks in the F/1 beehive. With lots of learning and fun being completed, Miss Bennett has been so proud of how productive we've been and starting the term off with a BANG!! Here are some insights into what the F/1 busy bees have been up to over the last 2 weeks.
Getting our brains ready for learning with the 'Morning Song':
Each morning we have been starting our day of learning off with the 'Pevan and Sarah' morning song. This song gets our brains ready for learning and encourages us to have a 'Red Hot Go' at all learning tasks. It's the perfect way to start our day together.
Learning about the Human Body in Inquiry:
Our Inquiry learning is in full swing with learning about the human bodies. The F/1's have loved learning about our bones and our skeleton. They really loves making little skeletons that move their limbs with split pins to put on the 'Incredible at Inquiry' wall in our classroom.
Think/Pair/Share in Writing
We have begun our new Text-Based Unit book :Joe and the Stars', once we read this book we had to answer questions in 'Think/Pair/Share'. This helped with our listening and speaking skills and comprehending what happened in the story.
Learning sounds and digraphs:
The Foundation students have finished their learning of 'Stage 1' sounds with the letter C. To help with their learning they made their own Cameras full of things that start with the letter 'c'. In Grade 1 the students have been looking at digraphs with 'r controlled vowels'. They have been looking into how the r 'drives' the vowel around. So far they have completed the digraphs 'or' and 'ar', to help with their learning they made 'ar' sharks.
Warming up our brains with 'Mental Maths':
Mental maths warm ups in maths have been a huge hit for both Grade 1 and Foundies in the F/1 beehive. The Grade 1's have been revising their skills in addition and the Foundies have been working on writing numbers 0-10.
Learning the Days of the Week and Duration:
In maths the Foundation students have been broadening their knowledge of the 'Days of the Week'. They can sing a days of the week song to help them and have enjoyed making the 'Days of the Week train'. The Grade 1 students have been learning about 'Duration'. This included looking at how many hours in a day and how many days a week.
With our learning in full swing we are looking forward to what the next two weeks of learning will bring. We also wanted to wish all of the 'Wonderful Women' in our lives an excellent Mother's Day for Sunday.
In the Grade 1 and 2 class this term, students are asked a ‘Question of the Day’ whilst completing the attendance roll. Our favourite question this week was ‘What would you like to be when you grow up?’, here are some of our answers:
Matilda would like to be a farmer, and take over her family farm.
Oonagh would like to help her mum with her dog grooming business.
Harlow would like to be a school teacher.
Marla would like to be a school teacher at St Patrick’s Primary School.
Tom would like to take over his dad’s business as a Plumber.
Addie Marcon would like to work with bucking horses at the rodeo.
Will would like to work on the farm, play AFL Football and be a motorbike rider.
Kynan would like to be a school teacher.
Tully would like to work on a farm, ride motorbikes and be a racecar driver.
George would like to work on his family farm with his dad.
Heidi would like to be a vet to help all of the sick animals.
It looks like we have a lot of animal lovers and future teachers on our hands!!
In Grade 3 during The Resilience Project we have been identifying character strengths in ourselves and others. We have created a page each for a classbook that describes something we are good at and the character strengths that help us with that.
Our text base unit this term is, 'The King of the Polar Bears' and the students have been busy learning about adverbs and locating adverbial phrases within a text. They have also learnt lots of new vocabulary and have had a go at creating their own sentences, using these new words.
We have had a number of students in our grade begin their music journey with Dilamac this past couple of weeks! Its great to see how excited they are! It was lovely to have Jaxon come back and share some things that he had learnt, just after one lesson.
The Grade 4 students are enjoying their Text Based Unit called 'The King of Polar Bears'. The students are currently working on the background knowledge to help them understand the text better. We read a lead up text called Polar Bear Adaptations, the students were so interested, they created a keynote about some of the hard to understand words that were in the text. These were: frigid, transparent, papillae, traction and detect.
Maths: Our Grade 5/6 class has been diving deep into the fascinating world of fractions. Students are honing their skills by learning effective strategies to compare fractions with different denominators. Additionally, they've been discovering the concept of equivalent fractions, helping them understand the relationships between different numerical values.
English: Our English classes continue to build on the imaginative adventures of "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe." We're focusing on developing complex sentences as we explore the themes and characters of the story. Recently, we sampled Turkish Delight and discussed whether it could sway us to betray our siblings, much like Edmund. To our surprise, many students admitted that it might! The engaging discussions around the book have deepened our understanding of literature and character motives.
Sandhurst Arts on Show: Our first preparation session for Sandhurst Arts on Show was a success! Tutors Laura and Grace were astounded by the enthusiasm and musical talents of our class. We will be performing "A Million Dreams" as a class and teaming up with other schools for a rendition of "Ain't No Mountain High Enough." The energetic session left us buzzing with excitement!
Sports Teams: We are incredibly proud of our soccer team heading off to the Campaspe Soccer Tournament this Friday. We wish them the best of luck! The school calendar is packed with thrilling sports activities, including the upcoming interschool cross country and netball competitions. Our class is enjoying all the opportunities to stay active and healthy.
Inquiry: In our Inquiry unit, we've been exploring positive relationships and the structure of families. We've delved into the values and attitudes that emerge within family dynamics and how beliefs can shape our interactions. Our discussions have shed light on what makes families unique and special.
