GRADE 3 EXCURSION - SOVEREIGN HILL, BALLARAT
Last Friday, on May 10th, our Grade 3 students embarked on an enriching excursion to Sovereign Hill in Ballarat. Immersed in their studies on the Gold Rush era, this hands-on experience provided invaluable insights into the past. Children explored the living museum, the depths of an underground mine and tried their luck at gold panning, allowing them to gain a deeper understanding of life during this time.
I liked the Red Hill Mine tour, because even though it was dark and scary with the voices, it was so cool with the stories. – Zac
At Sovereign Hill I learnt that ladies wore lots of layers of clothes. - Olivia
At Sovereign Hill I liked the gold panning because I had a chance at finding gold. – Indiana
At Sovereign Hill I liked the shops, because they had lollies and things that I have never seen before. – Carter
At Sovereign Hill I learnt that boys didn’t wear underpants! – Harriet
At Sovereign Hill I learnt that finding gold is very hard at the creek and only a few of us found gold. – Eden K
I CARE FOR GOD'S WORLD - FOUNDATION RE
This term the Foundation Students have been learning about God’s creation and fostering an appreciation for the natural, which has been a deeply enriching educational experience. By exploring the wonders of nature through scientific inquiry, observation and reflection, students can develop a profound sense of awe and reverence for the intricate beauty of God’s handiwork. We invite any parishioners and school families who may be attending Mass over the weekend to take a pot home to enjoy your own slice of God’s creation made with love by the Foundation students.
F.I.R.E CARRIER EXCURSION - WANYARRAM DHELK
On Thursday, our Grade 5 and 6 F.I.R.E Carrier students participated in an on Country experience, walking to the Wanyarra Dum (Frog Ponds).
Mr Van Der Staay and Mrs Thurley led the group along the Bendigo Creek Trail, as they investigated the effects of mining and colonisation on Bendigo waterways.
Students learnt about Coliban Water’s collaboration with Dja Dja Wurrung peoples to create the Frog Ponds.
This group of ponds helps filter toxic by-products out of our waterways, whilst also beginning the process of returning Bendigo Creek to what it once was.
The F.I.R.E Carriers are going to collate the information they gathered along their journey and create presentations to pass this information onto the rest of the school community during Reconciliation Week (27th May - 3rd June).
We look forward to providing more exciting opportunities for our F.I.R.E Carrier program in the future.
