Grade 4
Reading
Our Grade 4 students embarked on a magical journey with the classic tale The Elves and the Shoemaker. As part of our reading exploration, students examined how this story can serve as a mentor text for their own writing. We focused on understanding character development, dialogue, and how a simple plot can carry rich meaning. The elves' generosity and the shoemaker’s kindness sparked thoughtful discussions on themes of gratitude and the importance of helping others. The students then designed their very own shoes.
Writing
Over the past two weeks, Grade 4 students focused on developing their persuasive writing skills as part of our NAPLAN preparation. The topic? "Everyone should learn how to cook." Students brainstormed compelling arguments, from the health benefits of homemade meals to the life skills cooking provides. They worked on structuring their ideas with clear reasons, examples, and strong conclusions to make their case effectively.
Maths
Recently Grade 4 students focused on their skills with grid references in Maths. Using maps and coordinate grids, they learned how to locate and plot points using pairs of numbers, strengthening their understanding of the x and y axes. Through fun activities, students practiced reading and creating their own grid references, improving their ability to navigate and interpret spatial information.
It has been an amazing, busy and fun-filled year. We wish all of our Grade 4 students the best, as they embark on their next adventure to Grade 5 in 2025!
