Grade 1

Literacy

Over the last fortnight, students have spent time reviewing all of the new knowledge they have learnt through InitiaLit. All students completed the Cumulative Review 4 assessment with their teacher and we are incredibly proud of the progress our Year 1 students have made this year!

Writing

Last week, students continued exploring the book Creatures with Features: Shuffle, Bounce, Leap, and Other Wild Moves and completed an informative report about pythons. In their reports, they covered various aspects of the python's habitat, diet, movement, appearance, and other fascinating facts. Following this, students had the opportunity to present their findings to a small group of peers, allowing them to further develop their presentation skills in a supportive environment.

Maths

This fortnight, Year 1 students have been focusing on grouping collections in Numeracy. They’ve explored the concept of dividing objects into groups, learning how to determine how many groups are needed and how to equally distribute items among these groups. Through fun and engaging games, students have practiced these skills in a hands-on way. Additionally, we’ve revisited addition and subtraction, using games to reinforce and consolidate these fundamental concepts. The interactive approach has helped deepen their understanding while making learning enjoyable.

Integrated

Students have been applying their knowledge of constructed, natural and managed features by creating trioramas.  As seen below, students were required to make a scene and label the different features. In wellbeing, students have been reflecting on Grayling’s PROUD values.  Students have also been investigating celebrations across cultures around the world leading up to school holidays, Christmas and New Year's.  It has been great to see the students celebrate a terrific year before moving on to Year 2!
