Spotlight on Learning

Oak
Horse Riding
Horse riding has concluded for the year, with students enjoying each and every session they had with the team. At the conclusion of our last session, students presented a thank you card to the amazing members of Riding for The Disabled at the Ryde centre.
Oak 2
Students in Oak 2 have been working on public speaking and recounts of their weekend. This week many of our students wanted to let the class know that they had been preparing for Christmas and decorating their homes. Students completed an art work of a Christmas tree to include in their presentation.
Mathematics
Recently students have been working on the topic of Chance. They have enjoyed engaging in simple experiments, such as tossing a coin or rolling a die, to explore possible outcomes. This exploration helps students understand the basic principles of probability, such as the likelihood of an event occurring, through hands-on activities.
Oak 1
This term, Oak 1 students have been writing about our own personal experiences and linking them to the books we have been reading in class. We have looked at different activities we enjoy doing with our families, drafting these ideas in our writing books, editing and then publishing using Google Docs.
In mathematics, we have been learning about the importance of flexible strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems. Students have been using number lines and counting on and back to find answers.
Oak 3
English Learning Update
In English, Oak 3 has focused on enhancing reading fluency and comprehension in recent weeks. Students have been diligently working on phonics, blending letter sounds to read words and sight words. It’s wonderful to see their progress as they become more confident readers!
Additionally, we have been exploring the different elements of writing sentences. Our students are learning how to construct sentences, and they are beginning to express their thoughts creatively.
Mathematics Update
Recently, Oak 3 has been focusing on key mathematical concepts, including time, positional language, and numbers.
Students have been learning to read clocks and discuss daily routines in relation to ti
me. We have been sorting activities into daytime and night time.
Our exploration of positional language has helped students describe locations and directions. They have been using terms such as “above,” “below,” “next to,” and “in front of” in various activities, enhancing their spatial awareness and communication skills.
We have also been reinforcing number recognition and understanding through engaging games and activities. Students are developing their ability to count, compare, and manipulate numbers, which lays a strong foundation for more complex mathematical concepts.
