2024 Final Assembly

The final College Assembly was an brought our school community together under the leadership of 2025 College Captains, Matilda and Harper.

Two former students join us to share their personal and professional journey since their school days.

Aunty Katrina Amon (Class of 1981) is a First Nations advocate who has worked in education for many years, leading to her current position as Indigenous Development Manager at the St Kilda Football Club

Sharni Layton (Class of 2005) excelled in netball, reaching our National team, winning two gold medals and captaining the Diamonds. Sharni then transitioned to Australian Rules football being at the forefront of the emerging AFLW competition.

Though they had unique paths and challenges Sharnie and Aunty Katrina shared a very special connection to MGSC. Both played Goal Keeper in the school netball team and were Melba House Captains!

At the Assembly students' acheivements in the Australian Mathematics Competition held in August were acknowledged, plus the school's Public Speaking awards presented.

Public Speaking Awards

The winners of the Public Speaking competition were announced at the last College Assembly by Gabby Taylor.

Good Morning

Tradition! For many years we have encouraged students to face their greatest fear - public speaking. During the year we continued to foster an annual public speaking event that takes place from Year 7-10. It’s tradition. This yearstudents grappled with important topics: from socks to the relevance of fast fashion. All students composed orations and delivered punctuated speeches softly and LOUDLY creating an aura of Student voice - diverse, inclusive, and an event so important to all of us. It was a chance to listen to one another. We heard about stuff - that mattered … still matters.

In Term Four, each cohort gathered for the top ten speakers. WE are here to announce the winners of each year level and the other students who crafted and created memorable, provoking works. They stood, they engaged with a voice. A compelling agency. Just listen.

I invite the following students to come up and receive a prize for the most outstanding voice and to others who also struck a chord. From the group that regaled us in each year level, the most outstanding are:
