College Council

My name is Gemma and I am one of the student representatives on the School Council. One of the things that stood out to me when I first joined the Council, was the sense of pride the members had in our school. Everyone is committed to ensuring the students, staff and the MGSC community are at the forefront of every decision. From reading the Principal’s Report, to updating policies, you can appreciate the commitment that is dedicated into running our school.

In this month’s meeting, we discussed the School Strategic plan for 2025 & 2026. These included academic and wellbeing goals based on statistics. Ms Brown emphasised the point that it is important to have smaller number of clear goals rather than a larger number as this allows us to better refine them and concentrate on achieving them. Here are some of the goals and targets:

Goal 1 - To maximise student learning growth

  • Maintain 80%+ Year 9 Reading, Writing & Numeracy score in exceeding and strong categories in 2025 & 2026
  • Maintain a 32 VCE study score in 2025 & 2026

Goal 2 - To maximise student engagement and wellbeing

  • Increase effective classroom behaviour from 54% in 2024 to 60% in 2026 in the Attitudes to School survey which is completed every year by students and surveys how they feel about their learning, peer relationships, wellbeing and overall school experience
  • Increase motivation & Interest from 52% in 2024 to 60% in 2026 in the Attitudes to School survey

The next strategic plan will be published at the end of 2026.

We wish everyone a safe and happy holiday. Enjoy the sun!
