Junior School Performing Arts

Performing Arts at Oakleigh Grammar has been in full swing! Our wonderful Junior School students performed in the production of, The Wind in The Willows with incredible bravery and dedication. Our year 5 students performed the lead roles with newfound confidence, as they worked as a team, celebrating their own achievements but also those of their peers. Congratulations to all our amazing students in the Junior School! Thank you to our wonderful Oakleigh Grammar teachers who supported each student so that they performed with great joy.

Middle Years Performing Arts (MYP)

Music Technology (DAW)

The Middle Years Performing Arts Program has been an array of creativity, skill acquisition and collaboration. Our students in years 7, 8 and 9 have completed a Unit of Inquiry on digital music composition. Working independently and in small groups to compose original music on a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). Students embraced the composition process, creating original work the encompassed music knowledge and theory, as well as an understanding of the highly creative and unique process of song writing.

Year 5 & 6 Classroom Instrumental Music Program: Guitar

Our Year 6B and Year 5 Hawks students have completed a Unit of Inquiry entitled, Rock Stars! They have been developing the skills to play the acoustic guitar. This unique opportunity is part of their Performing Arts program. Students have embraced this opportunity to learn an instrument, celebrating with a small informal performance at the end of the term. Congratulations to these students who were risk-takers in their approach to their learning. The program will continue in Term 4 for the remaining year 5 and 6 classes.

Visual Communication & Design

On Friday the 24th of May, the Year 10 Visual Communication and Design students went to the city to go on a street art tour with ‘Blender’ and see the new exhibition at ACMI called ‘Beings; by Universal Everything’. The exhibit showcased many interactive and digital art and designs through bodily movements to help students with their 3D printing of their toy design this semester.

Projected larger than life, Universal Everything’s parade of fantastical creatures morph in real-time, responding in unique ways with each interaction. The more you move, the more animated they become.

Made of digital fur, lava, bubbles, vapour and more, these wiggly, jiggly beings are powered by game engines, VFX software and ever-evolving algorithms. No two visits to this exhibition are the same!

For over 20 years, UK-based art and design collective Universal Everything has been creating mesmerising works. They are fascinated by ‘soulful technology’ inspired by nature, human figures and emotions. Beneath the high-end visual effects, their creative process begins with simple hand-drawn sketches. Displayed alongside the artworks for the first time, these drawings reveal the imagination and craft behind the technology.

An ACMI-curated world premiere, including four new works, Beings is Universal Everything’s largest international exhibition to date.
