Principal's Report

Dear HPS Community,

What a lovely way for me to end the week by getting to listen to the beautiful sounds of our school choir during their rehearsal. The choir have been working hard each week to learn how to become one as they sing. We are so appreciative of the time, energy and effort that Brett and Bron put in to supporting the choir at our school. We cant wait for them to perform to our school community at an upcoming assembly. It will be something worth coming to hear. Stay tuned for when they will be performing!

I was also lucky to see some of the Inter School Sports netball match that was being played at our school today. There was great teamwork and some impressive skills on display but most importantly, there was lots of smiles and joy on faces both on the court and of those who were supporting from the sidelines. Well done everyone.

Wednesday next week will be our Foundation - Year 2 Cross Country. It will be held at school between 9.30- 11am. Our Foundation students will get the event started, setting off first, running laps around the oval while the Year 1 and 2 students cheer them on! Once they have finished, Year 1 students will take off with the Foundation and Year 2 students encouraging them around the course. Finally, our Year 2 students will have their moment to shine and will have the Foundation and Year 1 students  bringing them home with lots of support. HPS community are invited to come along and watch and share their encouragement to our F-2 students as well. Good luck to all participants.

Next week, teams of teachers will be involved in planning teaching and learning opportunities for term 3. We rearrange the specialist timetable for the week to allow year level teams time to collaborate and prepare stimulating learning programs.

Monday- Year 4 and Year 6 teachers planning

Tuesday- Foundation and Year 3 teachers planning

Wednesday- Year 1 teachers planning

Thursday- Year 2 teachers and specialist teachers planning

Friday- Year 5 teachers planning

Parking and Road Safety around the school

Unfortunately we are seeing many unsafe and inconsiderate driving behaviours around our school at the beginning and end of each day.

Drivers must obey road rules for the safety of our students and community members. We also ask drivers to be mindful and considerate of others by adhering to the parking signage in the different areas they park.

Please be careful and safe when driving around our school. Safety is everyones responsibility!

Student Semester Reports

Teachers are currently busy preparing Semester One Student Reports which will be made available for families to access on Compass, Wednesday, 26th June. Student reports are a fabulous way to identify the learning and the progress that have been achieved across the semester and also help to direct the next steps and opportunities for further learning in the future. We hope that you share these reports with your child/ren, celebrate the success and discuss plans to support the future development.

3-Way Conferences

On Wednesday 31st July and Thursday 1st August we will be offering 10 minute meeting opportunities for parents/guardians and students to meet with the classroom teacher to discuss progress and strategies to best support students achieve their goals both at home and at school. A Compass newsfeed will provide further information as well as instructions on when and how to make bookings.

Family holidays

We are experiencing a number of families choosing to take their children out of school for extended periods of time to go on family holidays. Where possible, families are encouraged to arrange family holidays outside of school times.

Parents/ Guardians are asked to put a request in writing to the principal, well in advance of the scheduled family holiday, outlining the proposed dates the student would be missing school.

For further information regarding our Attendance Policy please refer to it here: https://www.heidelbergps.vic.edu.au/publications-policies

Parents & carers are asked to ensure attendance on Compass is updated to reflect student absences.
