Year 3 Excursion to Moonlit Sanctuary
On Thursday, June 6th, the Year 3 students headed off on an excursion to Moonlit Sanctuary. Blessed with perfect weather, the day was filled with fun! The guided walk was a hit, as students learnt all about Australian mammals and birds. The Wallaby Walk brought smiles to everyone’s faces, as the students got to feed the kangaroos and wallabies up close. The Reptile Classroom was definitely the highlight of the day. Students not only learnt fascinating facts about snakes and lizards but also had the opportunity to pet them! Thank you so much to our parent helpers who joined us on the day.
Prep Olden Day & Grandparents Day
We ate scones with jam and cream and played olden day games we had learnt with our grandparents such as skittles, elastics, knuckles, ring toss, hoops, skipping, hop scotch and marbles.
1A Problem solving
Our class had some very mathematical discussions about how to count our box of unifix blocks. The deciding vote was to build blocks of ten and then we extended our thinking to create blocks of one hundred using ten ten towers. Then we counted by one hundreds for the first time! We even found out that ten one hundreds is a thousand!!! Wooooowwww!
We had 1,100 and then 81 left over.
1,181 unifix blocks! Problem solved! Please Note: no unifix blocks were harmed in this experiment!
Senior Winter Lightning Premiership
Last week on Thursday, the teams representing Somerville Primary School enjoyed a day of sport at the District Winter Lighting Premiership Day. We entered a footy team, volleyball team, two netball teams and two soccer teams. We are excited to share that our volleyball team was successful in winning their finals and will be progressing to the Divisional level. Well done to all students who attended.
