EHS House Athletics Carnival

The annual School House Athletics Carnival, held on Monday 16 March, was a fantastic celebration of participation, competition, and house spirit. With perfect weather setting the tone for the day, students from all year levels brought energy and enthusiasm to the track and field. 

 

From the first event to the final relay, the carnival showcased a strong commitment from students to get involved, earn points for their house, and support their peers. Whether competing in sprints, distance events, jumps, or throws, students demonstrated determination, resilience, and a willingness to challenge themselves. 

 

Toner were dominant across the day, finishing well ahead of the competition with a strong all-round performance. Pakana secured second place, while Everard and Skipper battled closely to round out the standings.

Congratulations also goes to all students who achieved success in their events throughout the day. Students who finished first in their respective events have qualified to represent the school at the upcoming District Athletics Carnival. In addition, the top two placegetters in both the 1500m and 3000m events have also earned the opportunity to progress, recognising their outstanding endurance and effort in these challenging races. 

 

A big thank you must go to all staff who contributed to the smooth running of the carnival. From event officials to timekeepers and recorders, their organisation and support ensured the day was a success. 

 

Congratulations to all students who participated and contributed to the positive atmosphere. The House Athletics Carnival continues to be a highlight of the school year, promoting not only competition, but also teamwork, inclusion, and school pride. 

 

NMR Swimming

The school community celebrated an outstanding day in the pool at the Regional Swimming Championships on Thursday 26 March, with our students delivering exceptional performances against strong competition. Their dedication, preparation and commitment to representing the school with pride were evident in every race, with many swimmers achieving personal bests and stepping up when it mattered most. 

 

Leading the way was Samuel Hartley who produced a dominant performance across the meet, claiming an incredible three individual gold medals, along with two silvers, and playing a key role in two victorious relay teams. Sam’s consistency and determination set the tone for the team’s success. 

 

Ben Van Dijk also delivered a flawless performance, securing three individual gold medals and contributing to two relay golds. His strength across multiple events highlighted both his versatility and competitive edge in the water. 

 

Archie Bonga impressed with a well-rounded meet, earning two individual gold medals and two silvers, as well as contributing to a relay gold. His efforts across a busy program demonstrated resilience and strong race execution. 

 

Adding to the gold medal tally was Luca Miraglia who raced superbly to claim an individual gold medal, further showcasing the depth of talent within the team. 

 

The relay teams were a highlight of the championships, showcasing outstanding teamwork and depth across the squad. The Boys 17–20 Medley Relay team of Ben Van Dijk, Sam Hartley, Archie Bonga and Evan Hayes delivered a phenomenal performance to win gold and break the regional record in a truly memorable swim. The Boys 17-20 4 x 50m Freestyle Relay team continued the success, with Sam Hartley, Ben Van Dijk, Zac Cochrane and Harry Taggert powering their way to another gold medal. 

 

The Boys 15–16 Medley Relay and the Boys 16 4 x 50m Freestyle Relay teams also impressed, both claiming bronze medals. Xavier Webley, Fynn Bohan, Ben Nicholls and Campbell Bubb represented the school with pride across both events, demonstrating great determination and teamwork to secure podium finishes. 

 

Overall, the team’s success at the regional level is a testament to their hard work and commitment throughout the season. The school is incredibly proud of all swimmers for their achievements and the way they represented the community, both in and out of the pool. 

 

Well done to each one of the swimmers who represented our school with excellence. Good luck to Sam, Ben, Archie, Luca, Zac, Harry and Evan who have now progressed to the SSV State Finals on April 23 at MSAC.

Year 12 Outdoor and Environmental Studies - Wilsons Prom

On February 25-27 the Year 12 Outdoor and Environmental Studies class enjoyed travelling to Wilsons Promontory National Park to attend a three day camp at beautiful Tidal River,  Gurnai Kurnai Country.  This aligned with Unit 3 Area of Study 1, Changing Human Relationships with Outdoor Environments.

 

The outdoor activities undertaken to enhance their learning and understanding of Unit 3- Changing Human Relationships with Outdoor Environments were bushwalking, camping, cooking, stand up paddle boarding and environmental observation and interpretation.

 

Additionally,  on Thursday the 19 March  the Year 12 Outdoor and Environmental Studies class enjoyed participating in an excursion to the Mornington Peninsular (Boon Wurrung/Bunurong Country) to participate in snorkeling out in Port Phillip Bay and a visit to Rocky Creek Strawberry farm. This aligned with Unit 3 Area of Study 2, Relationships with Australian Outdoor Environments in the Past Decade.

 

The outdoor activities undertaken to enhance their learning and understanding of Unit 3- Changing Human Relationships with Outdoor Environments were snorkelling, walking, and strawberry picking as well environmental observation and interpretation.

  

The students thoroughly appreciated these experiences. We continue to be proud of the Outdoor Education opportunities at Eltham High School.
