As we begin the 2026 school year, Kinross Wolaroi School is introducing a strengthened and more purposeful approach to student wellbeing. These developments align closely with our Strategic Plan, Graduate Attributes and school values, and are designed to support every student to thrive—academically, socially and personally. Two key elements underpin this approach: Compass, our taught wellbeing program, and Community Time, dedicated moments each week for connection, reflection and belonging.
Compass: Our Wellbeing Curriculum
Compass is Kinross Wolaroi School’s timetabled wellbeing program, grounded in Professor Lea Water’s evidence-based Visible Wellbeing SEARCH framework and embedded with our school values and Graduate Attributes. Like other learning areas, Compass is taught explicitly and supported through age-appropriate activities and reflection.
Through Compass, students develop lifelong skills that support learning, resilience and personal growth. Research shows that strong wellbeing is closely linked to improved academic outcomes, engagement and confidence.
Across the year, students explore four interconnected areas:
Below is a snapshot of the Senior School's Term 1 Program and a video explaining the SEARCH framework.
Community Time: Building Connection and Culture
Community Time provides regular opportunities for students to connect with their Mentor Group, House, Year Group and the wider school community. These shared experiences reinforce the relationships and values that underpin life at Kinross Wolaroi. Held each Wednesday and Friday, Community Time includes assemblies or chapel, House or year group meetings, and Mentor Group check-ins. These moments allow staff to support students’ wellbeing, celebrate achievements, share important information and strengthen relationships.
Together, Compass and Community Time ensure wellbeing is not an add-on, but a core part of everyday learning and school life at Kinross Wolaroi.
