Spring Gully Senior Swimming Sports
Congratulations to all students from Grades 3 to 6 who competed at our Senior School Swimming Sports at the Bendigo East Pool last Wednesday. Perfect weather allowed for the sports to run smoothly as the students competed in a range events, including freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly. Novelty games were also played in the Intermediate pool. It was great to see so many children participating, giving their best efforts. Students were awarded House points for every event they chose to compete in. The final House standings will be announced at Assembly on Friday.
The highlight of the day was the House Relay event, with ASHBY House leading all the way to secure victory.
Congratulations to the following students who will now go on to represent the school at the Sandhurst Division Swimming Championships at Bendigo East Pool on Friday 27th Feb. These students have been informed of their selection and will receive further information via Compass.

Auslan News
Grade Preps have been learning the signs for some basic greetings in Auslan: Hello, how are you? I’m good/bad/okay/sad/happy, Nice to see you! The Preps have been enjoying learning these signs through 2 Emma Memma songs: “Hello, how are you?” and “Happy Birthday!” We have been playing the 4 corners game to learn how to respond someone when they sign “How are you?” and Spin the Bottle to have-a-go at signing some responses to Greetings for students to interpret.
Grades 1-6 have been revisiting Handshapes from Set 2: Wish, Flick, Letter C, Gun, Bad and Key/Soon. Handshapes are an important part of Auslan and we use Handshapes to help us sign more accurately. Handshapes are used in connection to Orientation, Location and Movement to form different signs in Auslan. There are 38 major Handshapes in Auslan and 28 variants. When we change our Handshape, it will completely change the meaning of a sign. Grades 1-6 have completed worksheets on these Handshapes to practise naming them and identifying signs that use these Handshapes.
