Assistant Principal's Report

Roblox - What Parents Need to Know.

We hear students talking about the online game, Roblox, fairly regularly at school. This platform comes with it's risks to safety, including exposure to online predators. The links below will take you to a recent ABC article about Roblox which shares some concerning recent experiences and a support page for parents by Dolly's Dream.

If your child uses Roblox, I strongly encourage you to check these links out:

Photos and Recordings Consent Clarification

On Interview Day, families were asked to complete a consent form about the use of children’s images (see below). This was a Department of Education template, and we did not anticipate the confusion it would cause — we apologise for this.

To clarify:

  • Box 3 – Images shared beyond the school community. At SGPS, we do not have school-managed social media accounts. This box mainly relates to our school newsletter, as it is published on the school website and can be accessed by the public. It may also apply in rare situations where external visitors (e.g. local media or incursion providers) request to take photos. In these cases, families would be contacted directly for approval.
  • Box 2 – Images shared within the school community. This refers to Compass, where information (such as Newsfeed posts) can only be accessed by members of our school community.

If you are happy for your child’s photo to appear in the newsletter but did not tick Box 3, please email me or contact the office and we will update your consent. Thank you for your understanding. We will ensure this is clearer in future.

Chronicle Entries in Compass

An important feature of Compass that we wanted to highlight with families this week are Chronicle entries, which are created by our staff. 'Chronicles' provide information for families relating to a variety of things at school.

These include:

- when a teacher has created a Student Achievement notification, celebrating the awesome work of your child/ren.

- when your child has been attended to in sickbay

- if your child has had medication administered, as per the consent provided to the school

- attendance flags, i.e. late arrivals, early departures or absences

- if your child is receiving an award on assembly

School Photos

School Photo Day will be held on Wednesday 18th March. Please refer to the flyer with the QR code below for ordering. These flyers are also available at the office. Please note that the school has no involvement in the ordering process.
