Each year the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is undertaken by students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. Students will participate in tests for writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy.
NAPLAN 2026 will take place from Wednesday 11 March to Monday 23 March.
NAPLAN is just one part of our school learning assessment program. The tests assess literacy and numeracy skills your child is already learning at school.
In preparation for NAPLAN, our school will undertake activities to help students become familiar with the format and functionality of the online tests.
The public demonstration site is available to see the types of questions, tools and functions used in the NAPLAN tests.
Further information about NAPLAN for parents and carers is available on the NESA website and also by clicking the link below:

Best Start Interviews were held with each Kindergarten student before starting school. The purpose of these interviews was to provide teachers with information regarding the literacy and numeracy skills of each student on entry to Kindergarten. While it is not expected that Kindergarten students start school demonstrating all skills assessed during Best Start, it is important for teachers to know where students are in order to inform teaching and learning programs.
Mrs McManus will conduct the Best Start parent meetings with Kindergarten parents this Friday 20th February. At these meetings, parents will receive a summary of the literacy and numeracy skills that their child demonstrated during the interview, as well as feedback on ways they can support learning at home.

At St Joseph’s, we proudly celebrate student success each week through the presentation of two class awards. The Learning Well Award honours a student who has shown pleasing effort, perseverance or achievement in a nominated area of the curriculum. The Living Well Award recognises a student who exemplifies our school values through respectful behaviour, positive attitudes and outstanding citizenship.
