Learning Across the ELC

Preschool Update

With 2026 being the Loreto year of Felicity, we introduced a toy dog to Preschool Blue, named Felicity. Felicity has been very popular and an amazing comfort for children in moments of separation or sadness. In our Yarning times we talked about the word Felicity meaning joy and happiness, reinforcing that joy and happiness is what Felicity the dog brings to us all.

We created a poster for our dog Felicity, by phonetically sounding out her name the children collaboratively wrote ‘Felisite' and surrounded her name with drawings of water bowls, food bowls, rainbows, love hearts, dog friends, toys and bones, all the things they wanted to give her. Children have constructed collars, leads, food bowls, a water fountain, toys, play areas, a bracelet, safe transportation, a mirror and a dog house, using recycled resources from our making area. All of our dog conversations have reinforced our Preschool Responsibilities of Safety, Kindness and Respect, and connected to Felicity's body bubble.

Felicity sits proudly in the middle of our Morning Meeting and Yarning Time circle every day. In Week 2, we took Felicity on a College walk, to meet the Mary Ward statue, see the three flags, the fishpond, the Labyrinth, our Mika Kurruru 'Open Circle' Indigenous Garden and First Creek. Children have requested for Felicity to start visiting their family homes soon, and we can’t wait to see what she gets up to with our families.

Learning in the Wattle Room

The first two weeks of this term have been all about welcoming new children and building connections through meaningful relationships. These early experiences link closely with our inquiry focus for the term, “Relational Responsiveness through Connection.” By prioritising warm, responsive interactions, we have supported children to express their emotions, share joy, and develop a strong sense of belonging and security in their world. Through these connections, children are seen, heard, and valued as important members of our Wattle community, supporting them to grow, learn, and become confident, involved learners.
