Sowing the SEADs of Success

From the Assistant Principal: Wellbeing and Engagement

A fortnight of memorable firsts.

From the excitement of the first day of school for our new Reception students to the bittersweet ‘last first day’ for our Year 12 students, we have experienced a range of significant moments. New staff members celebrated the joy of their first Loreto classes, while new students found reassurance in making their first friends. Additionally, the initial meetings between teachers and families during our Senior and Junior School Parent Information Nights highlighted our commitment to fostering a strong partnership in your daughter’s education.

Personally, my fortnight has been enriched by the felicity felt in these ‘firsts’. I witnessed the pride on the faces of our Year 12 girls as they wore their woollen Year 12 jumpers, despite soaring temperatures. I observed the sense of achievement on the faces of our Year 6 girls after they successfully sang in three-part harmony during their first choral lesson.

Additionally, I thoroughly enjoyed our first ‘Felicity Friday.’ On these Fridays, my conversations with Senior girls begin with a joke or pun affectionately known as a ‘Felicity Funny.’ Meanwhile, our Junior students can be heard sharing joy with our Year 12 students, as laughter and music from the courtyard fill the lunchtime air.

However, the most memorable moment was witnessing the growth in confidence among our Year 7 students during their first Senior School camp. A significant shift occurred in their conversations; instead of asking, “What school are you from?” they began asking, “What homeroom are you in?” This change reflects a deepening sense of belonging and an acknowledgment that they are now all ‘Loreto Girls’. This transformation was visually evident as the number of chairs at group dinner tables increased each night, illustrating the expanding circles of friendships.

I look forward to seeing how our students’ relationships develop and strengthen throughout the year, and I am excited to meet more families at our Parents&Friends Welcome Drinks evening next Friday 13 February in the Sunken Garden.

Senior School PE Uniform

We are pleased to announce a new opportunity for students to arrive in their PE uniform if they have PE scheduled during Lesson One or Two. We hope this initiative will help ease your family’s morning routine and make the start of the day a little smoother.

While we embrace this change, we kindly ask that students still follow our guidelines for neat and appropriate attire. Our College takes great pride in its reputation within the community, and how our girls present themselves plays an important role in that.

To ensure everyone is prepared, all Lesson One teachers will be checking for uniform compliance. If your daughter arrives in her PE uniform but does not have PE scheduled before recess, she will receive a reminder about our uniform policy.

At the end of the day, we ask that all students leave campus in their formal uniform.  The only exception for remaining in PE uniform is if a student has after school sports with Loreto College. Please note that family appointments or physiotherapy sessions do not qualify as reasons to wear PE uniform.
