Felicity in Action: Beginning the Year with Purpose
The start of a new school year always brings a sense of possibility, and this year that energy has been evident across the College. Students have returned settled and focused, quickly re-establishing routines of learning and reconnecting with one another. There is a purposeful engagement in the classrooms and shared spaces that speak to a strong friendship.
As you know, this year we are deliberately deepening our understanding of the Loreto value of Felicity. Felicity is more than simply feeling happy; it is about choosing joy, gratitude and hope, even when learning is demanding or circumstances are uncertain. Our students are learning what it means to live this value authentically, through how they engage in their learning, how they treat one another and how they contribute to the life of the College.
Our co-curricular programs are also well underway, with sporting opportunities already generating enthusiasm and commitment. I look forward to cheering on our rowing students this weekend as they compete in the SA rowing state championships.
Year 7 students have taken an important step in their Senior School journey, having recently returned from their first camp. Experiences such as these build strength, independence and connection, and mark significant moments of growth and, of course, special memories.
Earlier this week it was a delight to welcome back many students from the 2025 cohort to celebrate their SACE success at our Academic Excellence Assembly. During this assembly, I spoke openly about the reality that the glass ceiling still exists and challenged students to be courageous, to not wait for an invitation, but to recognise their right to be present, to speak, and to make their mark and lead. This message is relevant for every student as we begin the year.
I look forward to connecting with parents and carers at our Parent Welcome Drinks next Friday 13 February from 6.00pm, as we celebrate the start of this year of Felicity together.
