Pre-Loved Uniforms (Size 6) Available

We are grateful for the generous donations of pre-loved uniforms we have received, particularly an abundance of size six yellow shirts and red jumpers. It is clear that the smallest grow the fastest! Many uniforms have been outgrown and continue to be in good condition. We are eager to support families and reuse where we can and so we will provide a second-hand uniform table next week in the STEM Garden, near the prep classrooms. All parents are welcome to take items that they might use on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Attendance: Every Day Counts

Researchers know how many days of absence kids could 'get away with' before it started to affect how they were doing at school....none!

They determined this using a combination of school enrolment figures, attendance records and NAPLAN results provided by the Education Department. They studied patterns of over 415,000 primary and high school students over a five-year time frame. In all analyses, average academic achievement on NAPLAN tests declined with any absence from school and continued to decline as absence rates increased.

Every day of absence made a difference, and this was particularly true for unauthorised absences. The effect of one day of absence was relatively small but added up quickly as more and more days were missed. The effect of missing days accumulated over time, so that school absence not only impacted achievement in the year in which the days were missed but in future years as well.

Keeping Track of Notes and Consents

During this start of the year festival, a range of consents have been sent home. They are easy to miss so here is a summary …

Local Excursions Consent - this provides permission for your child to attend local excursions throughout the year. This can be signed on QKR!
Photographing, Filming and Recording Students Consent - this seeks consent to publish your child’s image at the school, across our school community and/or publicly. This document was sent home this week in paper.

Rosanna Primary Birding Club

Thursday 5 February

We’re excited to announce the new Birding Club took flight today at lunchtime. This invitational club is open to interested students in Years 1–6 and will run roughly fortnightly. It involves a local excursion to the Rosanna Parklands and requires students to complete a local excursion consent form prior to students participating. If your child loves nature and exploration please encourage them to add their name to the list at the office or send through an email. There will be lots more adventures ahead.

Recycling to Support the Sustainability Garden

Our sustainability program continues to grow. Thank you to families who have collected recyclables over the holidays in support the sustainability garden. Orange bags are available from the office for those who would like to join the recyclers by setting aside spare cans and bottles. Returning a full bag of recyclables helps fund and maintain our garden projects. Your small actions make a big difference for our students and the environment.

New Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader - Kate Arnot

We are delighted to welcome Kate Arnott as our new Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader. Kate is working three days a week to strengthen connections with local wellbeing and health services, check in with students regularly, and support staff professional learning. We are grateful for her ongoing support to prioritise student wellbeing and continue to enhance the care for all students at Rosanna Primary School.

REMINDER: Annual Privacy Reminder for our School Community

Rosanna Primary School collects and uses student and parent personal information for standard school functions or where permitted by law, as stated in the Schools’ Privacy Policy and the Schools’ privacy collection notice.

Our Photographing, Filming and Recording Students policy, is soon to be found live on our new website and has been posted on Compass. It describes how we collect and use photographs, video and recordings of students. The policy also explains when parent consent is required and how it can be provided and withdrawn. The Photographing, Filming and Recording Students Consent Form has been sent home and is also attached to this post for your convenience. Unfortunately, we are unable to ask for this documentation to be signed on QKR!

We ask parents to also review the guidance we provide on how we use Microsoft 365 safely at the school and what parents can do to further protect their child’s information. Microsoft 365 If after reviewing the guidance, you have any questions or concerns regarding your child using Microsoft 365, please contact the school.

School Council Positions and Annual General Meeting 7:00pm Monday 16 March

On Monday 16 March at 7:00pm School Council will hold their public Annual General Meeting. Parents and carers are invited to attend. Keep your eye on Compass for those wishing to know more about joining the School Council and the nature of the responsibilities involved. The instrumentalist program provides a diverse range of opportunities to explore particular instruments. These lessons see students withdrawn from class for a brief weekly lesson. For further information please contact the specific instrumentalist.

Coming Up …

Parent Teacher Interviews Year 1 to Year 6 Wednesday 11 February

A reminder that parent–teacher interviews for students in Year 1 through to Year 6 will be held on Wednesday. Information was included in last week’s newsletter and outlined the booking process and the format of the 10-minute meetings.

To help teachers prepare and make the most of your meeting time, parents were invited to complete and return a survey. This survey and the documentation was distributed in the newsletter last week and will be be sent home in hard copy.

Locations of specific meetings for each class will be provided on Compass next week. If you remain unsure, please arrive early and pick up a copy of a map from the office.

If you require support to make a booking, please contact the office as soon as possible.

There will be some changes to the timetable throughout the week to provide teachers with an opportunity to meet with parents. We will aim to minimise disruption by using specialist teachers to cover classes as much as possible.

Student Leadership Ceremony

Friday 13 February at 9.10am

You are invited to this important opportunity for our senior students and those elected as class Sustainability Agents and Junior School Council Representatives in the first semester of 2026. Student leaders will be presented with their badges by the Member for Ivanhoe, Mr Anthony Carbines. Families of those students participating in the ceremony, along with the new student leaders, will be invited to morning tea hosted by FORPS. Please consider your participation in this important event!
