The Junior School campus has truly come alive as we begin an exciting new school year. It has been wonderful to welcome students and families back onto the grounds, reconnect with familiar faces, and see the energy return that only comes when children are learning together. The recent Student-Teacher meetings were a valuable opportunity for teachers to form genuine connections with each child and gather insights to inform planning for Term 1.
I am delighted to lead the Junior School this year and to continue our focus on Strengthening Community. This means building strong relationships, maintaining clear expectations, and sharing responsibility for every student’s learning and wellbeing. When staff, students and families work together with purpose, students feel secure, supported and ready to engage, take risks and grow.
The start of the year is particularly special for our Prep students and their families, marking an important milestone as each child begins their Overnewton journey. Across all year levels, students have returned with enthusiasm, reconnecting with friends, forming new relationships and embracing the learning experiences ahead.
In these opening weeks, classrooms will establish strong foundations for learning through shared expectations, respectful behaviours and connection building activities such as Circle Time. These practices support a positive classroom culture where collaboration, consistency and care underpin successful learning.
Equally important are the connections within our parent community. Whether through a morning greeting, a conversation at the gate or a shared moment after school, these everyday interactions play a powerful role in strengthening our sense of belonging.
As the year unfolds, the strength of our Junior School will be reflected not only in academic progress, but in the confidence, wellbeing and growth of each student. Thank you for the trust you place in us and for the important role you play in our community.
I look forward to a year of shared responsibility, high expectations and positive outcomes for every Junior School student.
