The Year 4 transition students are welcomed to Yirramboi during the December (2025) step up days with enthusiasm.
Throughout the day, the students are directed towards meticulously planned and well structured ‘getting to know you’ activities. The Visual Arts department welcome the children to create with confidence. As the day progresses, they are well prepared to enter the middle school the following year.
The staff within the Visual Arts department guide the children in creating an artwork using a continuous line. The artist Joan Miro is a perfect influence. He created a "series of portraits" and used the continuous line technique to create a sense of freedom and expression. Finally, by adding a selection of colour, the creations are enhanced, thus it’s a great way to add emphasis to certain areas of the facial features.
The students learnt that they could create a self-portrait by using one continuous line to begin and end the portrait. This can be a challenging concept. At the end of the scheduled session, staff can sense the student’s satisfaction, enjoyment and confidence they have developed throughout the activity. Giggles can be heard during this new method of creating as the instructions are short and sharp.
As an arts staff, we are pleased with the overall effects and the student’s accomplishments are wonderful and well developed. We hope that you enjoy the creativity of this free artwork. Finally, at the end of the academic school year, the children will look forward to taking their artwork home and acknowledging how much they have developed within their skill level.
