From the Principal

Ms Sharon Rainford

Dear Parents, Carers, Students, Staff and Friends of St Norbert College

In this final newsletter for Term 3, I would like to take the opportunity to acknowledge the hard work of staff who continue to challenge students to be their best. It has been a busy term and many of the reports on events will be included later in the newsletter.

At our recent College Assembly, I asked students to stand and remain standing if they were involved in the various events that have taken place this term. These included the Catholic Performing Arts Festival, SoNic Fest, the Creative Arts Exhibition, Dance Night, Inter-House and ACC Athletics and Inclusive Carnivals, Tournament of the Minds, SRC, Year 8 Social, Kimberley Immersion, Climate Canons, Kairos, Australian Maths Competition, International Chemistry Quiz, Rotary Speech, Premier’s Reading Challenge, Basketball, Football, R U Ok Day, Year 11 Dinner Dance or if they have received at least one merit this term. It was a visible affirmation of the contributions made by our students and the staff that made these events happen. There was only a small number of students that remained seated, and I sincerely hope that they will be motivated to become more involved in our vibrant community in future. College Contributions are also reported on the Homeroom page of our reports so I hope there will be evidence of participation for Semester 2. Thank you to parents and carers that support students to participate in these events.

We will be coming together as a community at our annual Presentation Night on Tuesday 24 October at the Perth Concert Hall at 7pm. A reminder that it is a compulsory event for students and at least one parent needs to be in attendance. It is a night that showcases our talented community with the presentation of awards and a variety of performance including a Year 7 massed choir. More information regarding tickets will be sent out early in Term 4. A Home Study Day follows on Friday 25 October for students. Please mark these dates in your calendars.

Given the ‘many good works’ of our staff at St Norbert College, I invite parents, carers, students and staff to nominate a staff member for the Br Patrick Doolan Award to recognise their outstanding contributions to the College Community. Further information and the NOMINATION FORM link. Nominations are due at the end of Week 1 of Term 4- Friday 11 October 2024. A selection panel will process the nominations and select the awardee who will be announced at Presentation Night.

Th process of welcoming our 2025 Year 7 students (Class of 2030) to the College has begun! Following a well-attended Information Evening on Thursday 5 September, students sat a Placement Test the following week. We look forward to seeing our new students again when they attend Orientation Day on Thursday 28 November.

We have also begun farewelling the Class of 2024. I would like to extend my best wishes to our Year 12 students who are preparing for their upcoming exams during the holidays. Remember to stay focused, take care of yourselves, and believe in your abilities. Graduation events occur in the first 2 weeks of next term.

Finally, I wish everyone a restful and enjoyable holiday break.

God bless
