Welcome Back to Term 4 and better weather. I hope all of our students had an enjoyable break and have returned refreshed and keen to finish off what has been a great year at Churchill. Term 4 generally brings a positive atmosphere to both the classroom and the yard. The better weather seems to help staff and students thrive through what really is a busy time of year.
Across all areas of the campus, students will start to think about the transitions that lay ahead. Over the first two weeks we have completed PAT testing for both literacy and numeracy on almost all of our students. This testing information provides us with critical information that helps us to make informed decisions, it is used to triangulate with other data sets to support student learning and appropriate school wide decision making around where we may need to provide future resource and supports.
At the completion of last Term, we celebrated the term by engaging in a whole school History Day. The day was a huge hit for staff and students and the festivities were capped off with an unbelievable medieval feast that was prepared and cooked by our amazing staff and students. I would like to give a huge shout out to Steph Barfoot who did an amazing job of recruiting a number of willing staff helpers to get this event off the ground. It was a fantastic way to end the term.
Grade 6 to Year 7
Extra Transition has already begun for identified students who may benefit from spending additional time getting to know how secondary school works whilst developing connections with Kurnai staff. We are excited to welcome all our prospective year 7 students for a three day orientation program beginning on 6th of December.
HeadStart
Our current year 7,8 &9's will begin their HeadStart period on the 2nd of December. This is where our students roll into their 2025 classes with new teachers and new class groupings.
University Campus Transitions
Some year 9 students will identify their desire to transition into a Year 10 Pathways program for 2025. This program is offered and delivered to a select group of 2025 year 10 students that may choose and be suitable to follow an applied learning/trade pathway that is delivered from our senior campus. Applications for this program will be open next week along with more information for any interested students. Our current year 10 students have started to engage in the process of course and subject selection for their time next year at the University campus. This is an exciting and important time in their schooling and the first really significant milestone in their pathway to their future career.
I hope our wider school community is looking forward to the warmer weather as we rapidly approach the festive season.
