The Right to Disconnect

On Monday 26 August 2024, an amendment to the Fair Work Legislation Amendment (Closing Loopholes) Act 2023 came into effect. This is known as The Right to Disconnect. The new provisions will be adopted alongside the Department’s existing industrial and employment obligations, including occupational health and safety commitments. This means that as a school we will be supporting our staff to exercise their right to monitor and respond to emails only on weekdays and between the hours of 8:00am and 5:00pm. Some staff may make alternate arrangements with their classes which is also their right. This may be more common for the senior classes, particularly the Year 12 classes leading into exams.

I would also like to highlight that in our communication policy staff have 48hrs to respond to emails from parents. Teachers are often engaged in teaching during the day which may include teaching all 5 periods scheduled for the day. This doesn’t provide an opportunity to respond immediately. It also allows them to find out what the call is about, make contact with others to obtain the necessary information to respond in an informed way and at a time when they are ready to engage in other issues outside of their teaching role.

I thank everyone in advance within our community for your understanding with this guideline.

Spring Concert

I had the pleasure of attending the Spring Concert on Tuesday the 15th of October. This event was the biggest and best yet from the Music Department. We had a record number of students perform, and it was the first time that we didn’t use any backing tracks. It was live music only for every performance which is a significant milestone for the program.

A huge thank you to Heather Allan and the Music team for their tireless efforts in bringing together such a wonderfully joyful and entertaining evening. Please make sure you go to our socials to view some of the highlights.

World Teachers Day – Friday the 25th of October

Let’s celebrate our teachers and thank them for all the work they do to educate, inspire and empower learners across our college. It's time to tip our hats to the incredible educators who assist in shaping the future of your children. I thank every teacher for the hours spent delivering a teaching and learning program that is assisting our students to follow their passions and dreams.

Last Week of Year 12

We said goodbye to the class of 2024 last week. The Year 12 students this year have simply been amazing. They have developed strong relationships with the school staff and have created a learning culture within the new senior study precinct that we all so proud of. They held a luncheon after the 2025 school captain speeches on Thursday to celebrate their achievements and all students and staff had the joy of listening to the schools’ captains address at the end of the day. The speech was truly reflective of their time here at the college and provided some inspiration for the students moving into the senior program. They finish the week at a rain soaked but warm Fun Fields where they had the time to relax and unwind after a challenging 9 months. While formal classes have ended, we wish them luck with the upcoming exams that commence on Tuesday the 29th of October, and look forward to the formal and graduation events.

If you have any questions about any of the formation listed above, please contact me via the general office or on 9463 7300.
