Leadership Report

Written by Hayley Mann

Dear Saltwater Families,

Welcome to Week 10! We can hardly believe we’ve already reached the end of Term Three for 2024.

Term Three Achievements

As we look back on the term that was, it’s been wonderful to reflect on our many highlights. In addition to providing some great academic learning experiences, this term saw us hosting some incredible extra curricular experiences to engage our students further. Read on for some of these experiences.

Year Six PYP Exhibition

Our Year Six students proudly celebrated their incredible IB work with a PYP Exhibition hosted in the school gymnasium. The inquiries they showcased were truly inspiring, ranging from women's rights to the importance of protecting habitats. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who visited and supported the students, sharing in the celebration of their amazing achievements!

Scholastic Book Fair

Last week, our students had a fantastic time visiting the Scholastic Book Fair, where they had the chance to explore and purchase a wide variety of books. We set a goal of reaching $15,000 in sales and are excited to share that we surpassed it, with a total of $16,433! The funds raised through the book fair will go directly toward purchasing additional books and resources for our classrooms, helping to enrich our students' learning experiences. Thank you to everyone who supported the book fair! If your child/children ordered an out-of-stock book, they can expect to receive it next term.

Victorian State Schools Spectacular

This year, our Year 7 and 8 students had the exciting opportunity to participate in the Victorian State Schools Spectacular (VSSS) as part of the mass dance group. Performing at John Cain Arena, they supported the main cast singers and dancers, contributing to the vibrant atmosphere of the performance titled 'Splash.' A special mention goes to Michaela Goh from Year 7, who was selected as a Principal Dancer in the group that performed songs from Annie and Matilda the Musical. The VSSS is a fantastic program that unites school communities, helping students achieve excellence in the arts and fostering pride in our schools.

Wakakirri

On Friday 13 September, our talented dance extension group had the honour of performing at the state-level Wakakirri dance festival. After being selected for this event, they delivered yet another incredible performance, impressing both the audience and the event organisers. We are thrilled to announce that their hard work and dedication have earned them a spot in the national Wakakirri Dance Festival! We couldn't be more proud of their achievements and look forward to seeing their continued success on a national level.

Colour Run

We are thrilled to announce that our 2024 Colour Run was a huge success! The children had an absolute blast racing through the vibrant clouds of colour, and the teachers had just as much fun joining in on the excitement. It was a fantastic afternoon filled with laughter, energy, and bright smiles. Thank you to everyone who helped make the event so memorable! What a brilliant way to end the busy term.

Sun Smart Policy- HATS. No Hat No Play!

A reminder that all students are required to wear their broad brimmed hats for outdoor activities, this includes recess, lunch and physical education lessons.

Students without hats will be required to stay in the shaded areas of the school. Sun screen is available for our students, however they are welcome to BYO and apply sunscreen at school.

Students will be required to wear their hats from Monday 7 October through until the 6th April, 2025 when involved in outdoor activities or outdoor recess. Hats are available at the office should you need to purchase one for your child.

School Saving Bonus

The Victorian Government has announced implementation details for the School Saving Bonus. The School Saving Bonus will provide $400 in one-off support for Victorian school-aged students in Term 4, 2024, for use on 2025 school costs. The once-off bonus will be available from late November 2024.

The School Saving Bonus is in addition to existing and continuing means-tested supports for the Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund and the Affordable School Uniforms Program.

Families will receive an email from the department with their $400 School Saving Bonus and access to an online system. Families can choose how to allocate the $400 online – on school activities, school uniforms or textbooks, or a mixture of all three.

End  Of Term & Term Four

On behalf of the leadership team and all the staff, we look forward to seeing you back at school in Term Four, on Monday 7 October, for an 11 week term - which concludes on Thursday 19 December 2024.

Best wishes to all and happy term break!

Thank you.
