Year Six

Dear Year Six Families,

A Message from the Proud Year 6 Teaching Team: Celebrating Our Remarkable Students

The Year 6 PYP Exhibition on September 11 was an unforgettable experience, and as the teachers of this incredible cohort, we could not be more proud of our students. From the moment the doors opened, it was clear that every student had poured their heart and soul into their work, demonstrating a level of maturity, passion, and understanding that left us in awe.

Our students truly exceeded every expectation. They spoke with depth, clarity, and genuine conviction as they articulated their central ideas—each presentation reflecting their journey through the Primary Years Programme. Whether exploring issues of environmental sustainability, mental health, cultural diversity, or the impact of technology, the students delivered their insights with knowledge and authenticity that belied their age. The confidence they displayed as they communicated complex global issues was nothing short of remarkable.

We were especially moved by how our students engaged with the broader community. Witnessing how they confidently explained their learning to parents, teachers, and visitors from other schools was heartwarming. The feedback from the parent community was significant.

As teachers, we have always believed in the potential of our students, but hearing parents share their own words of wisdom, reflecting on how much their children have grown, reaffirmed just how particular this group is. Parents marvelled at the depth of understanding their children displayed, with one parent noting how their child had grown academically and become a thoughtful, compassionate individual ready to take on the world's challenges.

The exhibition wasn’t just about presenting information and taking action. Our students didn’t just talk about change; they embodied it through the incredible action pieces that were on display. These projects, whether focused on reducing single-use plastics, advocating for mental health awareness, or improving local environmental practices, are a lasting legacy of the students' commitment to making a positive difference.

As teachers, it was incredibly rewarding to see our students take their learning beyond the classroom and into the real world. Their initiatives are already impacting the school and wider community, and we couldn’t be prouder of the thoughtful, empowered young leaders they are becoming.

The feedback from other schools who visited the exhibition was overwhelming. Educators were genuinely impressed with our students' level of inquiry, creativity, and critical thinking. It was such a proud moment for us as teachers to hear others acknowledge what we have known all along—that our Year 6 students are exceptional in every way.

As their teachers, we have watched these students grow over the years, and seeing them present their work with such confidence and authenticity filled us with immense pride. We know they will continue to build on the legacy they have begun, inspiring others with their passion for learning and their commitment to positive change.

To our Year 6 students, thank you for making this year’s PYP Exhibition so unique. Your hard work, creativity, and dedication have left an indelible mark on Saltwater College, and we couldn’t be prouder of every one of you. We know this is just the beginning of the incredible things you will achieve in the future.

With heartfelt congratulations,

The Year 6 Teaching Team
