Year Two

Dear Year Two Community,

We have approached the end of Term 3 and what a term it has been!  There have been many exciting learning opportunities for our students and we have even more excitement to look forward to in Term 4.

Inquiry:

In Inquiry our students have been learning about materials and their purposes. The students have learnt that different materials have many purposes. They have also started to learn about why we have to think carefully about the types of materials we use when we construct something. We explored our classroom and ventured out to our school playground to find what materials were used to create our amazing environment.

Reading:

In Reading our students have been learning about synthesising. They have enjoyed using their prior knowledge and new knowledge gained from a text to create their own understanding. Each student has been able to complete a puzzle, each piece of the puzzle encouraged the children to think about what they first thought when they saw the text, what they were thinking during and after reading the text and the final piece was for them to think about how their thoughts had changed.

Writing:

In Writing our students have been introduced to the world of Poetry. They were provided with a variety of poems then they had to document what they saw, what they thought and what they wondered. Students have learnt about the elements of poetry and have created their own Acrostic poems.

Mathematics:

In Mathematics our students have been learning how to measure objects using both formal and informal measurement. First they had to identify the difference between the two forms of measurement, then they had to measure objects using both forms to compare the difference between the two. They came to the realisation that formal measurement gives you the exact measurement whereas informal measurement doesn't, for example, all our hands are different sizes which means that we get different answers. Students have also been introduced to Area. They have learnt to identify the area of known shapes using formal units of measurement.

Tunnel Ball:

This term, our Year Two students enjoyed an exciting Tunnel Ball competition, where each class had the chance to compete against others. The highlight was 2B’s impressive run to the grand finals, where they faced 2L from the TTB classes and the TTA classes. After a thrilling and closely contested final, 2B emerged as the champions. This event was designed to build strong relationships among students and highlight the importance of sportsmanship. Congratulations to 2B for their fantastic teamwork and sports spirit throughout the tournament!
