We congratulate Thar Bee, Year 9, for winning the Most Consistent award for Hockey. Well done Thar!
Congratulations to Lauren, Year 9, for winning the Coaches Award in her grade for the Taylor's Lake Football Netball Club. Well done Lauren!
Recently we entered three teams in the Junior Black Ranges Basketball Tournament. Well done to all students for their participation and College spirit!
Year 7 Boys:
Congratulations to the yellow team, consisting of Charlie, Hugh, Hamish, Joel, Kayden and Luke, for winning all games in their pool matches in Ararat. They progressed to the semi final, narrowly losing to overall winners Warracknabeal Secondary College. All students played exceptionally well throughout the day. Charlie was very supportive all over the court, especially with rebounds, Hugh drove the ball down the court, supported by Hamish, Joel and Kayden with Luke’s major role in defence through the mid court. These students worked extremely hard and played together as a very strong team.
Our green team came away with one win out of their three pool matches. Experienced players Jack, Riley and Oliver supported players Archie, Jordy and Sanjo throughout the day. All players came away having had a great day out, mixing with other schools. A special thank you to Rory and Jon for coming along to referee for their first time and Mr Dunn for his coaching.
Year 8 Boys:
Once again, this group of students played exceptionally well throughout their pool matches only dropping one game. They went into the semi final match against Horsham College, but unfortunately they were not able to come away with the win. Our team of nine players consisted of basket-makers Jake, Jon, Archie and sharp shooter Rory, supported by Ty and Manny. Our interchange players Jesbel, Eamon and Nate were pivotal during our match against Holy Trinity and came on with such passion they changed the game, nearly giving us the win for top place in the pool. Once again thank you to Mr Dunn for coaching and referee Finn.
Year 7/8 Girls:
Our combined group of Year 7 and 8 students had a wonderful day out supported by Ms Clee and Tayla Hudson as our referee at the Horsham Basketball Stadium. Ms Clee reported she learnt a range of new skills including scoring basketball games and reported all students played well and they came very close to winning their match against Marian College. Our team consisted of Chloe, Maddison, Ivy, Jorja, Ayla, Sienna, Makaira and Claudia. Well done girls for your participation and enthusiasm!
Recently the Year 8/9 Sports Academy students travelled to Melbourne and visited the St Kilda Football Club and the MCG. Students engaged in two educational sessions with St Kilda FC. In the first session, Recovery Right, students learnt how athletes utilise the first-class facilities at the Danny Frawley Centre for their recovery and enhance their physical and mental performance. Students toured the facilities and tested some of the recovery equipment. The second session, Footy, Technology and Innovation, showcased to students the power of technology and innovation, and how tools including the AFL's Review Centre, umpire real-time feedback and data analysis, are used to improve athletes' performance.
We were lucky enough to have Ella Friend, St Kilda AFLW player and St Brigid's College alumni, lead the students through one of the sessions. Students finished off the day with a tour of the MCG.
