Term 3, Week 10
It’s been a very exciting Term 3 for Grade 1 & 2 Students!
We have been practising lots of new reading skills, including comparing fiction and non-fiction texts, using this knowledge to aid us in our information reports in our Writing. We’ve also been working on visualising, making predictions and even honing our comprehension and summarising skills.
During our Writing lessons we have been continuing with our narrative writing and adding to our Writers Gifts. We worked on Persuasive Writing last term and this term we moved onto Information Reports. Grade 1’s and 2’s have written some amazing reports on the Olympics, bushfires and even fruits and vegetables. I’m sure you’ve all heard some interesting facts at home! Working on our spelling and sentence fluency has helped improve the flow of our writing as well.
This term we have started a new way of learning spelling, using the Heggerty’s program for phonemic awareness. We have begun applying the strategies we have learned into our Writing. It has been wonderful to see students correctly spelling words using their chopping skills!
It has been a huge term for maths! We have looked at location and transformation, successfully giving each other directions and using Google Maps! Grade 1’s and 2’s have loved the games of chance we have played and learning about the value of different coins and notes. For the first time, we have dived into the concepts of multiplication and division, exploring arrays and sharing groups equally. Most recently, we have been introduced to fractions, including halves, quarters and thirds!
Lastly, we have loved learning about solving problems in our world, specifically on how to create safe, fun and inclusive learning and play spaces. Students were given the opportunity to go on a fun and informative excursion to Wombat Bend Nature Reserve to get some ideas on how to plan their posters and models for our Grade 1&2 Expo at the end of this week!
Thank You to parents and carers for your ongoing support in this very busy term. Have a lovely holiday and rest up for the final term of the year!
