Foundation News

Our students have made a very busy start to Term 4 and lots of learning has taken place. In Literacy, we have focused on new phonics sounds; /ay/, /ai/, /oa/ and revising the phonic sound /ng/. We have also continued to practise our tricky words and are trying use them in our writing. Our recent writing experiences have focused on recounts about the holidays and weekends. We are writing more descriptive sentences, so we can add more detail to our writing pieces. Check out the photos of our incredible writing below! 😊

Grade 1/2 News

Our students have been working towards understanding the writing process. Their recent publications of a narrative: The Magic Paintbrush and a recount: Our holidays have enabled the students to extend  their skills of brainstorming, planning, writing, editing and publishing a writing piece. They are super proud of their achievements and love reading each other's work .

3/4 News:

This term in literacy, we’re integrating our history unit to dive into Australia’s complex past. Students have been reading about early contacts with Australia, beginning with Dutch explorers and later, Captain Cook. We’re also exploring what life was like before these encounters and how the arrival of convicts forever changed Australian history. Our research has covered the impact of colonisation on Aboriginal people and its effects on the land.

In writing, students are learning to craft narrative stories, focusing on structure and engaging vocabulary. They’re encouraged to create historically themed narratives, imagining characters who might have been on the First Fleet. The class is thoroughly enjoying this unit, and we’re looking forward to reading their imaginative stories!

In Numeracy, the 3/4 class has been exploring fractions in a fun and interactive way! The students practised making the fractions halves, thirds, quarters, sixths, and eighths. Some students created these fractions using fairy bread, while others used Play-Doh or mandarins to represent their fractions. After practising, they enjoyed their tasty fraction treats! 🍽️ It was a fantastic hands-on activity to reinforce their learning. Check out the photos of our Fraction Fun below! 😊

Can I encourage all students to please bring along a water bottle everyday, particularly when we are participating in sport.

Grade 5/6 News

This week the grade 5/6s had a public speaking competition across the cohort! The winners of the competition have the opportunity to attend the Rotary Club public speaking competition. It was lovely to see so many of the 5/6 students be very brave and present in front of the year level.

Congratulations to Jy from 5/6L and Lyla from 5/6J for being our winners on the day and good luck to you both at the Rotary competition.

Here are some of the amazing work from some of our 5/6 students!
