Earlier in 2024, a number of parents at the school expressed interest in re-establishing a Parents' Club at Mullum PS (via an online survey distributed through Compass) since it was last active prior to 2021. An out-of-school hours meeting was convened on 21 May 2024 for those who had expressed interest, where the principal outlined school operational expectations, roles and responsibilities, and discussed how best the school and Parents' Club can work together (i.e. for social and fundraising purposes). The meeting outcome was a decision to reactivate the Parent's Club under the latest constitution, which was last updated by the Department of Education in 2019. 

 

An interim committee of at least three parents was appointed from among those present at the 21 May 2024 meeting. According to the Department of Education guidelines, the sole purpose of this interim committee is to prepare the template model Parent's Club constitution and seek the Minister's approval of the Parents' Club under the terms of that constitution. 

 

Next steps:

  • The Constitution has been forwarded to the Minister for approval
  • After approval from the minister, the interim committee is immediately dissolved
  • An Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be called by the Principal for the purpose of electing office bearers. The Parents' Club must elect at least three office bearers (President, Treasurer, Secretary). Roles and responsibilities of the office bearer positions, and the nomination form for office bearers, will be circulated once the constitution is approved by the Minister and the AGM date announced.
  • The school community is invited to become financial members of the Mullum Primary School Parent's Club prior to, or at, the AGM in order to have voting rights and to nominate for an office bearer position. The membership form will be circulated once the constitution is approved by the Minister and the AGM date announced.
