RE & Parish News

What's happening in Religious Education and our Parish life?

Pope Francis recently posted this on social media:

Prayer and fasting are the weapons of love that change history. They defeat our one true enemy: the spirit of evil who foments war, who was a "murderer from the beginning." Let us devote time to prayer and rediscovering the saving power of fasting!

October is recognised as Mission Month in the Catholic Church calendar. Parishes and schools participate in lots of different fundraising initiatives during this time.

At St Thomas the Apostle, our various learning communities will be learning about Social Justice issues both locally and internationally. Depending on which community your child belongs to, there will be a certain focus and fundraising effort. Some are participating in Socktober (Catholic Mission), some are getting behind local organisations such as St Vincent de Paul and some are looking at helping an overseas community directly that have a specific need.

Over the next couple of weeks, ask your child what they are getting involved with in regard to Mission Month. There may be ways in which you will be able to support at home.

Community Mass - Term 4

Our next school Mass will be in week 3, Wednesday 23rd October. Galilee (Foundation) and Jerusalem (Year 1) will be together for the celebration of the Mass with the theme 'God Loves Us'.

Each weekday Mass at the St Thomas the Apostle Church begins at 9:30am and we are encouraging parents and friends who come to the Mass to stick around for a cuppa afterward. There will be a demonstration of an Australian cultural favourite, 'The Tim Tam Slam' for those that don't know how this works.
