Year Five - Spotlight on Learning
Welcome back, Year 5 families!
Blink, and suddenly it’s Term Four! If you feel like you just bought school supplies last week, you're not alone—we’re wondering if the year has been on fast forward! But before we let the kids take over Year 6, we’ve got plenty of great learning (and maybe some persuasive debates about bedtime) ahead.
This term, students will be mastering persuasive writing in English—so get ready to hear convincing arguments for why chores should come with a cash bonus!
And of course, the event you’ve all been waiting for (or perhaps quietly celebrating)—Year 5 camp in December! A few days of fun and adventure for the kids, and a peaceful break for you. We’ll share more details as it gets closer.
It won’t be long before we’re all singing Christmas carols and reflecting on an amazing year. We can’t wait for the final term filled with learning, fun, and a bit of festive cheer!
We have had quite a few students coming to school unwell and then having to go home during the day. If you feel your child is unwell, it is best to keep them at home to recover.
Mathematics:
This week in maths we are reviewing and showing our understanding of multiplication and also learning to solve problems of multiplication using larger numbers. Students should be practising their times tables at home.
English:
We are finishing our book "Kensuke's Kingdom". We are also completing our persuasive pieces using the SPO structure.
Religious Education:
In Religion we are looking at the mission of Jesus and how his mission is linked to the Catholic social teachings. We are also exploring how we can live these ideals in our everyday lives.
SEL:
In social and emotional learning we are looking at seeking help and reasons as to why we need to seek help.
Integrated Studies:
We are continuing to learn skills for our end of year performance. This week we are looking at fractured fairy tales and we will be practising to read aloud with expression.
Auslan:
We are looking at sentence structure. For example; we sign the noun first and then the adjective.
