Performing Arts staff are super proud of trombonist Alex Caban from this year’s Music 2 and Music Extension class, who worked with diligence and maturity to develop both excellent technical skills and beautiful musicality on his instrument. Alex has been nominated for inclusion in Encore, NESA’s showcase of exemplary HSC performances.
We would like to acknowledge the fabulous accompanying skill of Luke Moxey, who has worked with Alex over the past 12 months to develop his HSC performance program.
Congratulations again to Alex Caban, who has been selected as first trombone in the Australian Youth Orchestra. The Australian Youth Orchestra has a reputation as being one of the world’s most prestigious and innovative training organisations and is open to students aged 12 to 25 years of age. Positions are hotly contended by elite young musicians across Australia, many of whom are studying for or have completed tertiary Music degrees.
Alex’s selection in the Australian Youth Orchestra is testament to his outstanding musicality and his tenacious commitment to practice. Congratulations Alex, on being selected to be part of this wonderful opportunity.
On Friday 20 September, the Year 9 and 10 elective music performance evening was held in the Performance Theatre. The night showcased students who have been learning for only a few months to those who have been learning as long as they can remember performing individual and group works, they have been working on this term. Students took the opportunity to go outside their comfort zones and perform pieces and even instruments that are not their specialty and they had so much fun.
Students were asked to review each other’s performances and their responses included:
Congratulations Years 9 and 10 on an entertaining and well-rehearsed evening.

Monday 24 September was the Year 11 Performing Arts night, consisting of a vast array of performances from Music 1, Music 2, and Drama students.
Students had the opportunity to showcase their preliminary works in 13 successful performances ranging from emotional monologues to classical music, to a pop trio.
The night reflected the hard work and dedication of the Year 11 students and showcased the high standards of Music and Drama at Kinross Wolaroi. It was a night which family and friends highly enjoyed.

We celebrated the end of a busy term for our string players with a wonderful concert hosted in the DPA which showcased all our string ensembles. The concert featured our youngest players in Beginner Strings through to our most experienced in Chamber Strings, celebrating both large and small string ensembles performing a wide range of music.
The high standard of music performed reflected the dedication and commitment of our string tutors and ensemble directors. Thanks to Mrs Lorraine Moxey and Mrs Katie Sinclair for their direction of Junior School string ensembles, Miss Michelle Hayes for her co-direction of iStrings and Mrs Lorraine Moxey for her direction of our Senior School ensembles. We also acknowledge all our fabulous students and parents who support our program.
Wishing our Year 12 students all the very best – we have loved having you in our ensembles and will miss you all next term!
This week we had lunch with our outgoing Music Leaders to thank them for their support of Performing Arts over the last year. Thank you to Angus Croft (Music Captain & Drum Major), Ivy Hawker (Music Vice Captain), Kate Adams & Nina Smedley (Choral Leaders), Will Knight & Maddie Sinclair (String Leaders), Alex Caban & Laynee Visser (Band Leaders) for their help with a myriad of tasks that help Performing Arts run smoothly. We wish all of these lovely people the very best as they leave school.
Music Leaders have an important role in the Performing Arts Department – they help set the tone for a positive culture in ensembles, assist in the planning and running of Music Camp and Music Festival and act as MC’s for various events.
Congratulations to the following students who are our Music Leaders for 2025:
