JUNE STUDENT REPORTS 

Yesterday parents/carers received their child/ren’s June reports via Compass. We hope they provide parents/carers with information about the children’s learning and wellbeing.

 

PARENT/CARER/TEACHER CONVERSATIONS

On Monday, parents/carers received a notification via Compass about how to book a time that suits them to attend these conversations on Wednesday 24th June from 1.00 - 6.00pm. All conversations on this day will be held in the P-2 building to enable parents/carers to walk through the gate, across the bridge and into the P-2 building to meet with teachers. This also prevents parents/carers of more than one child having to walk about the school looking for classrooms. Please note that with Ms Schefe, Ms Philp, Ms Doherty and Ms Elliott being on long service leave at this time, their conversations will be held in the first week of term three. Parents/carers of these students will receive a notification via Compass about how to book a time that suits them.

 

2027 FOUNDATION (PREP) ENROLMENTS

A reminder that in accordance with Department of Education processes, 2027 prep enrolment forms are due at the office by Friday 31st July.

 

SCHOOL COUNCIL 

Our team of parent representatives Jessica Craven, Lauren Bennett, Christiana Brown, Deanne Titler, Bethany Ha, Rikki Bee, Morgan Turnock and Natalie Swaine along with Department representatives Emma Graham, Brett Greenwood, Michaela Bird and Murray Surkitt (Executive Officer) met on Wednesday. Below is a summary.

  • We monitored the school’s financial position to check it remains financially viable.

  • We reviewed an Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) report produced by Sheridan, including how all OSHC educators have successfully completed the Foundation Child Safety Training and have been registered on the National Early Childhood Worker Register.

  • We read a letter sent to the school from the Australian Education Union regarding the call for submissions to the national public school infrastructure inquiry and decided to submit a submission. This led to a discussion about our student toilets. A thorough clean was already planned for the upcoming holidays and we will gain quotes for a refurbishment. We also discussed gaining quotes for the installation of a bike shed.

  • A principal report was shared, including progress regarding implementation of the schools 2026 Annual Implementation Plan.

  • Policies. Some policies need to be approved by school council, others by the principal, and some require consultation. The following policy has been updated and will soon appear on our website: Student Wellbeing and Engagement.

  • A Buildings and Grounds report was presented which included how new student tables arrived for Year 5 and some external decking is in the process of being replaced. We inspected the Year 6 classroom furniture as it is set up in a similar fashion to the Year 5 furniture. 

 

HOUSE COLOURS DAY 

On Thursday 25th June, GWPS students will come together to celebrate our annual House Colours Day. This exciting event provides students with the opportunity to connect with peers across all year levels while participating in a range of engaging cross-age activities. Throughout the day, students will work in their house teams to take part in STEM, Art and Sport challenges, all of which have been planned and led by our Year 6 students. These activities encourage teamwork, creativity, problem-solving and school spirit.

 

The celebrations will conclude with a lively House Chant Competition, judged by our School Captains, followed by a special presentation from our RISE Leaders. During this presentation, students who have demonstrated our school values of Responsibility, Inspiration, Strength of Character and Empathy will be recognised and celebrated. Students are encouraged to wear clothing in their house colours on the day and to come ready to participate, have fun and show their house pride. We look forward to a fantastic day of collaboration, leadership and community spirit.

 

POP UP STALL

On Friday 26th June the Year 3 students are hosting a ‘Pop Up Stall For Free Uniform’ which will be set up in the gym foyer.  In STEM the students have been learning about fast fashion and have made this stall as a mini project to try help solve the problem of clothing waste in landfill. There will be a variety of free second hand uniform items. Swing by and see if they have something that you need! 

 

LAST DAY OF TERM 

Term 2 ends next Friday at 2.30pm. With the Australian Socceroos starting their World Cup campaign on a magnificent note, we will get into the soccer spirit to support them with a fun day of Soccer and dance for the students. There will be no assembly as originally planned. On this day everyone is encouraged to support our Socceroos by wearing Australian colours (green and gold).
