YEAR 5

FROM THE CLASSROOM
Although our school week was short, it has been exciting and jam packed!
In Writing, students have begun innovating on our model text and are now working on a recount based on their own lives and experiences. They are applying the writing tools we have been learning throughout the term, including the use of asides and reported quotes, to add detail, voice and interest to their writing.
In Inquiry, students are continuing their media project, researching a notable Australian of their choice. They are exploring a variety of creative ways to present their learning, with some students choosing to conduct interviews and others creating digital trading cards. It has been wonderful to see students showcasing their knowledge through engaging and innovative formats.
Students are learning about 3D objects in Maths, with a particular focus on the nets required to construct these shapes. They have been visualising, naming and creating a range of nets and 3D objects using paper, hands-on materials and online platforms. This work has helped develop their spatial reasoning and understanding of geometric properties.
It is in our Reading lessons that we are nearing the end of our class novel, the book 'Once' by Morris Gleitzman. Students have been deeply engaged in studying the text and many are feeling a growing sense of anticipation as they wonder how the story will end. We look forward to discussing the novel's conclusion and reflecting on the important themes and main ideas explored throughout the story.
Finally - students had a fantastic time participating in Athletics Day at Casey Fields today. They enthusiastically took part in a range of events, demonstrating great sportsmanship and perseverance throughout the day. It was wonderful to see students encouraging one another, celebrating their achievements and enjoying the opportunity to be active outdoors. Thank you to all staff and volunteers who helped make the day such a success.
