Term 3 Author Visit | George Ivanoff

We are very excited to be welcoming author George Ivanoff to Frankston High School on Monday 9 September. George is a prolific children’s author noted for his captivating author talks, so this promises to be a very entertaining day for our Year 7 and 8 students!  It is also a fantastic opportunity for students to learn about the practices of professional writers and how they write the interesting and engaging stories we love. In conjunction with Lamont, we are delighted to give students the opportunity to pre-purchase books for George to sign on the day.

To order go to: https://www.lamontauthors.com.au/ and select 'Buy our Author's books'. All orders must be completed by Monday 26 August to receive the books to be signed during George's visit. Find out more about George here

Children’s Book Council Awards | Book Week

Visit the Library during Book Week to look at our ‘Reading is Magic’ display, check out the award-winning books and participate in our daily activities and competitions!

Our Book Club has been busy reading the Older Readers category of books for CBCA Shadow Judging, where students give their say on who they think the award winners should be. It is the first time Frankston High School has participated in this Australia-wide program. It was a huge exercise for students, firstly to commit to reading the nominated books and then produce a creative response to be displayed.

Many thanks to Mrs Emily Johnson for facilitating the activity with Book Club. Book Club runs every Tuesday in Room 23. New members always welcome!

And the winner for Frankston High School’s vote is Grace Notes…..

A debut YA verse novel about what happens when the paths of a young busking violinist and an aspiring street artist collide during a pandemic. Set in one of the most locked-down cities in the world - Melbourne, 2020.

This song has a grace note,
a tiny note that's there for embellishment
but can easily be ignored,
not played.
Tonight, I add it in -
just because.
We can all do with an extra note
of grace.

Grace Dalfinch is a talented violinist who longs to play contemporary music in bars, but her mum forbids her.James Crux is an aspiring street artist who promised his dad he wouldn't paint in public until he's finished school.

When Crux witnesses Grace's impromptu performance on a deserted tram, he's inspired to paint her and her violin; and when Grace stumbles across her portrait in a Melbourne alley by an anonymous street artist, she sets out to find its creator.

Grace Notes is a debut YA verse novel, set in one of the most locked-down cities in the world - Melbourne, 2020. For fans of Cath Crowley and Pip Harry.

'A classic in the making; Grace Notes is a vital balm of a book, a story to press into everybody's hands.'DANIELLE BINKS
