5/6 School Newsletter: Highlights

Production Excitement

Welcome to this term’s edition of our school newsletter! We are excited to share the amazing work our students in grades 5 and 6 have been doing across various subjects. From exploring new worlds through fractured fairy tales to mastering the intricacies of angles, our students have shown tremendous creativity and dedication. Here's a glimpse into what they've been up to:

Literacy

In Literacy, the 5/6 cohort has been diving into the fascinating world of fractured fairy tales. By reimagining our favorite stories, students have discovered new ways to express their creativity and bring fresh perspectives to classic tales. This term, they’ve crafted their own brilliant versions of these stories. For example, Noah G. created “Puss and the Three Little Pigs,” a tale where Puss in Boots, after being evicted from his home, finds himself on the streets. With the help of the three little pigs, he eventually secures a new home, leading to a very satisfying ending. Our students have truly cooked up some incredible stories in a short amount of time!

Numeracy

In Maths, the 5/6 cohort has been exploring the brilliant topic of angles. They have delved into concepts such as congruent, adjacent, complementary, and supplementary angles, enhancing their already impressive understanding of geometry. The students have enjoyed engaging tasks like finding missing angles and calculating degrees, making this learning period both challenging and rewarding.

Inquiry / Production

The 5/6 students have also been hard at work on their class production, each class putting a unique twist on a classic fairy tale. The chosen stories include “Hansel and Gretel,” “Little Bad and Red,” “Cinderella,” “Elves and the Shoemaker,” and “Jill and the Beanstalk.” With the guidance of our acting coach, Wendy, the students have developed their acting skills, memorized lines, and learned choreographed dances. Wendy has gone above and beyond, writing 8-page scripts for each class and ensuring the performances are top-notch. We are incredibly thankful for her contributions.

The production will be held on the 11th of September at the Clocktower at 7 pm. Tickets will go on sale starting August 18th, priced at $35 for adults and $25 for concessions. Additionally, the 5/6 students will perform for the entire school earlier in the day at 12:30 pm. Don’t miss the Friday Food Stall fundraiser, which will take place on the same day as the Book Week dress-up event on August 23rd, where all the main characters will be in costume.

We look forward to seeing you at these exciting events and celebrating the hard work of our talented students!
