Foundation Learning Community News

Term 3, Week 7

We are extremely excited to welcome chicks to the Prep Hall. We had eggs arrive on Monday and so far have welcomed seven beautiful chicks. Our Inquiry Unit has been focussing on what living things need to survive and thrive. We are learning about how to best care for the chicks, what they need to be healthy, and we are watching, drawing and writing about how they are changing as they grow each day.

Literacy:

Book Week was a fun celebration for us. We were fortunate to be able to enjoy many of the CBCA nominated books and we met the author Heidi McKinnon. Here are some of the monsters we created with her help.

We are using our chick visit to support our writing by completing an 'Egg Diary.' After carefully studying the eggs and chicks we draw and write to record our findings. We are working on extending our writing using descriptive words.

Numeracy:

During our learning about graphing and data we went for a walk around the school to record how many trees were in different play areas. We have also used data about how much water different animals drink per day to create simple column graphs. We were shocked by how much a cow drinks (more than 60L/day) and thought that goats (approximately 8L/day) were a bit more environmentally friendly.

Assembly:

See below the hard workers who received an award at our Week 4 assembly.

Congratulations!
