This term students have learned about the concept of empathy with the following focus:
Our Wellbeing classes regularly focus on empathy, helping students to be able to identify, understand and feel what another person is feeling. Having regular class discussion about how we feel can start to build trust and normalise talking comfortably about what’s going on. These conversations have the potential to give someone the confidence to open up if the find themselves struggling, and a belief that there are people they can talk to. We have been learning that checking in with each other and showing we care is another way of practicing empathy.
R U OK? Day is coming up on Thursday 12th September.
"Inspiring Australian communities to look after each other by encouraging people to ask “Are you OK?”
R U OK? Day is all about checking in and supporting mental health, which complements the work our EPS students have been doing around building positive wellbeing with
The Resilience Project so far this year.
Our school will be recognising R U OK? Day by encouraging both staff and students to wear a splash of yellow and black on this date. We would like to raise some funds for this charity, so a gold coin donation collection will be held on the day. Keep an eye out on Compass for more details closer to the date.
More than one date a year...
Whilst R U OK? Day on Thursday September 12 is the charity's National Day of Action, they and us encourage you to Ask R U OK? Any Day of the year if you sense or know someone who is struggling, because a conversation could change a life.
