It has been very busy in August!
Grades 3 & 4 - Engineers Without Borders
Students attended The Prosthetic Leg workshop which explored the importance of access to adequate healthcare, the functions of human limbs, and the way that prosthetics integrate with the human body. We learned about appropriate technology, sustainable development, shock absorption and basic anatomy. Students applied the following skills;
- Produce a creative solution to a difficult problem.
- Make decisions by working as a team.
- Work with limited materials under a tight time frame.
Grades 5 & 6
Grades 56B, 56C, 56D and 56E presented their Space and Science Expo to the grade 3 & 4 students. 56A will be presenting their expo later this week, as they missed out on two sessions.
All students put an amazing amount of effort into their projects for the expo and did a fabulous job teaching the younger students about the mysteries of the universe. They showcased their impressive science projects, demonstrating their critical thinking and research skills.
Grades 1 & 2
Students learned the importance of what to feed our earthworms and helped our school know what tasty food scraps should go in the food scrap bins and what terrible food scraps we should avoid.
At Essendon Primary School, we have two large worm farms that compost our veggie and fruit scraps from our classrooms. Our Grades 1 & 2 students made mini worm farms with real worms and added them to the large warm farms. All are part of keeping our planet sustainable!
National Science Week
'Save our Species - Our Survival Depends on Theirs' was the theme for the 2024 National Science Week celebrations. All grades during science were learning that species survival is more than sustainability. We share our homes with more than 200,000 species.
Across the school we were involved in biodiversity counts, making worm farms, and testing our knowledge during the National Science Week Quiz. Of course, there were many highlights from the Street Science team with their wonderful 'Save our Species' incursion.
