Dear Families

🍎 Medical Management Policies

St Mary’s governing body, Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS), has recently updated their Medical Management Policies. The changes are listed below.

1. Medication can no longer be administered at school without a Medication Authorisation Form (MAF) signed by a GP/Specialist physician.

2.  A Pharmacist is no longer permitted to sign a Medication Authorisation Form (MAF).

3.  Medication includes, over the counter medicines such as Paracetamol, Ibuprofen and Antihistamines.

4. Stock of these medications can no longer be stored in the Health Centre.

5. Medication administered at school, as part of ongoing treatment for a medical condition (Diabetes, Asthma, Epilepsy etc.), requires a Medical Management Plan (MMP) completed by a GP/Specialist Physician. Please note, an Asthma plan, Anaphylaxis plan, Diabetes plan and Allergy plan are all classed as MMP's.

6. Prescribed, short term Antibiotics can be given at school with a MAF signed by a parent only.

7.  On rare and single occasions. e.g. camps/excursions, a parent can consent to over the counter medicines, however this must be followed up with a MAF signed by that parent for our records.

If you have medication stored in the Health Centre, please collect at your earliest convenience.

For safety, please do not allow your child to carry medication on their person or in their school bag.

Forms are available from the Health Centre. Please call me with any questions or concerns.

 Kind regards
